Dundalk V UCD | Mon 26 Aug | 7.45pm | Oriel Park | Matchday 27

The cliché about the next game being the most important is probably nearly always true, but anything other than a proper and full focus on Monday nights meeting with UCD could easily lead to an upset and maybe herald in a serious set of the jitters. Talk about trebles and cup finals doesn't particularly help the players mindset.

The team management seem well focus as you would expect - in a post match interview last night Vinny Perth talked about watching the UCD match against St Pats on the way home in the bus, recovery training session this morning at 11am, training again tomorrow before the match on Monday.

From UCD's perspetive they have 8 games left to claw back the six points they are behind Finn Harps, who have played an additional game. The cup win will give them plenty of confidence and they have little to loose being giving it a go
New UCD manager Maciej Tarnogrodzki is bullish about climbing out of the Premier Division relegation zone after watching his side deliver an impressive performaance in dispatching St Pat's from the FAI Cup.

I hope we can get a decent and vocal support out on Monday

Some new boss bounce by UCD. Embarrassing for O’Neill, though. And Harry Kenny for that matter. Hopefully no guide to Monday!

Team news

Cameron Dummigan remains out with an ankle injury and Dane Massey faces a late fitness test after picking up a knock during Friday’s FAI Cup win over Derry City. Robbie Benson is back in full training and has a chance of making his return to the squad.

Predictable but very welcome soundbyte from VP
UCD clash 'a bigger game than Derry' as Dundalk FC continue their league title bid

Vinny Perth says that Dundalk FC’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division clash with UCD at Oriel Park on Monday night is “a bigger game” than they faced at Derry City in the Extra.ie FAI Cup on Friday, with the head coach stressing the importance of retaining the title.

The 2018 double winners are still dreaming of the 2019 domestic treble after eliminating Derry in extra-time, but talk of bagging all three trophies is not something that Perth wants to entertain.

Over the last couple of weeks, he has made it clear that Dundalk’s number one priority is being crowned Premier Division champions for the fifth time in six years.

Preumably Dean Jarvis will come in for Dane Massey based on Dane carrying a knock

Easily predictable starts also for Gartland, Boyle, Mountney & McEleney and probably Gannon & Rogers.

Hopefully Benson makes an appearance
Defender Cameron Dummigan was in Derry on Friday night but was not part of the matchday squad and the club has reported that he will be absent again on Monday with an ankle injury. Left-back Dane Massey faces a late fitness test after picking up a knock in the North.

Midfield pair Jordan Flores and Robbie Benson went through intense fitness work before Friday’s game, and the latter is said to be in contention to make Monday’s squad.

I know it will feel like an anti-climax if we don't win one or both cups - to the point that the folk who didn't want Perth will probably call for his head if we don't win either. But for me the League is everything and the sooner it's sealed the better.

30 seconds before the second goal I heard the same fella shout "come on ta fúck Dundalk" for about the 6th time. Started shouting it again 3 minutes later. Someone give him a slap - he sounds tapped.
