This craic of having Scales (for example) playing one week in division one to get fitness up and be playing in the premier league the following week was farcical.
I would have a couple of issues with rovers B. It is unfair on the rest of the Premier division teams. We have lost 2 young players in the past week because of lack of game time. It helps rovers develop players to step up to the Premier league first team the following season. So why can't Dundalk, derry pats or any other Premier league club who wishes to, have access to this? OK some clubs can barely scrape the budget for a first team squad, but we are more than capable of fielding a B team in the first division. How many players had we wasting away last season in the stands who didn't even make the subs bench for matches? They could have gained match sharpness for this season.
The 2nd issue I have is that rovers B obviously can't gain promotion, so it doesn't matter where they end up in the table. I think it is unfair that their results go towards the final league table. Imagine losing out on promotion or a playoff spot because you conceded 1 more goal or dropped a point playing rovers B. Their results shouldn't count.
Yes I agree, should be open to other teams to apply if they want a B team.
Pretty sure it’s open to anyone to apply for a license if they wanted

If it is then with a new fledgling academy and an influx of American kids you would think it was a no brainer for the club to enter a side in it?

You can be awarded a licence and still not be accepted into the First Division. The licence doesn’t guarantee entry. It has ten teams now which works. Rovers B were shoehorned in to make ten last year. The other clubs would have fought hard against it being 12 with us and Rovers entering B teams.

I don't think the results should stand against a B team as it it wouldn't be fair to lose out on promotion because of your results against rovers or dundalk B team. but it would give those B teams some badly needed game time. What's the point in having an academy where our players are either sitting in the stand or playing for another loi side past the age of 19. We are basically developing them for other clubs if that was the case.

The photos the club just published show McEleney and Murray taking part in training. Wonder if it was a subtle response to Gerry.

Or maybe they are just starting to train and wouldn't be up to speed with the rest?

Will be interesting to see how they charge for WatchLOI....will they try increasing the price for reduced quality or will they put some effort into it in a hope that it gets more viewers. Have a serious feeling the FAI and RTE dont want this to work.

Pandemic payment continues until end of June. That’s €350 per week, per player and member of staff on a wage higher than that. Worth 380 odd to the club because it’s not subject to employer’s PRSI afaik.

Back of an envelope calculation for 40-odd full time players, coaches and staff makes that worth at least €15,200 a week to the club, or the equivalent of 3,040 people through the gates of Oriel every second week paying an average of a tenner. That doesn’t get into the trade off of losing bar sales but saving on all the costs of putting on a match.

Some clubs probably doing better out of all this than they would have otherwise.

I would imagine they might offer a half season ticket for it, in the hope we get fans in after the summer. Highly doubtful I might add. They will easily charge €80 to €100 minimum for a full season ticket. It was only €55 14 games last season so just shy of €4 per game. A full 36 match programme realistically we would be lucky to get for €100.

If people want them to put more effort into it, then fans are going to have to prove they want that by paying for it first. Can't expect them to spend anything on making it better when there's no guarantee of a return on investment. Etc.

I believe that's how the argument goes when it suits people.

A couple of weeks ago FG did say that Murray Fats and Duffy were carrying injuries in an interview he did with either Gav or JR. He mentioned that fats and SM weren’t serious and shoy be back for opening game
