He can't go on the pitch and put the ball in the net for them. We created 21 chances and scored once. We simply don't have the players anymore, and certainly not a striker like Robbie Keane. He is bringing the youth through and giving them a chance, so he needs time.

I honestly believe from the start that while he is the best man for the job, it simply won't work for him. Kenny transformed dundalk and made us the best footballing side in the country ever. How did he do this? By being with them on the training ground every day, through out an entire season and over 7 seasons with players who bought into his idealogy. With the intetnational squad he probably had them 9 days now which included playing and travelling to and from 3 matches, ok only 1 of them was away, but he doesn't get enough continued time to emphasise to them how he wants us to play. That's why it doesn't work. Dundalk as a unit under Kenny, especially the 2016 side that went toe to toe in the Europa league group stages with sides like zenith who had 50m axel witsel in their ranks were a phenomenal side (Dundalk) and would beat this current Irish side off the park. So this can only end badly for Kenny unfortunately imho.

Yes Ireland don't have the players, but Kenny was very dismissive of previous Ireland managers when he took the job and that he was going to change the culture and style. That can work and club level where its a daily basis to work on formation and tactics, but there is only a handful of International games in a year.
Azerbaijan are 122nd in the World. Why did McClean do, to warrant a start tonight? He was at fault for the 2 goals against Portugal

Kenny done a decent job with the U21s. Idah, Parrot and Connolly are all under 21 still ,and it might be with a different manager before they they hit consistenty. They need to do more at club level first ..
Even if Kenny was to get the Euro 2024 Qualifer campaign, the seedings will be well hit as Ireland are slipping down the rankings..

btw of the 21 chances Ireland had, just 5 were on target. Azerbaijan had 4 on target and 6 wide

Could we see Kenny returning to Oriel for next season? Have the FAI the money to replace him?

Its not like the 80s and 90s when most of the Ireland squad played in top flight in England, English football has gone global now in turn it leaves it very difficult for Irish players to get a break, if SK didn't manage dundalk we would be calling for him to be sacked also but we say give him time because we have that connection with him.1 win in 15 we don't have the players simple as, ireland try and play nice football but no end product its a results business am not sure pep/klopp could do any better it is what it is.

I think that you are all right in your assessment that we do not have the standard of players to compete internationally anymore. I also think that any top line coach would struggle to do better with this bunch of players but there is no point in trying to polish a turd either. There must be a point were The manager must realise that his players are not capable of playing the expansive attractive football he wants them to play and adapt his playing style to the resources available to him. Wether we like it or not, to get any sort of results at this level, this Ireland team needs to play more like a Mc Carthy/O'Neill type system, I.e, stop other teams playing and hit on the break until such time as we have the players to play Kenny's preferred way. Otherwise there will be more pain and more embarrassement. Honestly lads, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan, God help us but in Stephen's defence, most of his players cannot get a start in the Championship and to be fair the standard of our players is not much higher than our league. We just have to suck it up at the moment. The performance against Portugal just shows that at least the players are trying for Stephen and have a bit of pride. Hard to knock them really, just not good enough.

The North under Michael O Neill had similar results in his first 15/16 games. They improved and got results along with playing decent football. He was working with a limited team, Davis and Evans were obviously solid Premier league players.
The North hadn't qualified for a big tournament since the 80s,so was probaly more patience with O Neill.

Kenny has to get Ireland to get a few results in remaining 4 qualifiers. Serbia are beginning to click after a few years of underperforming. A draw would be a good result. Azerbaijan and Luxembourg away will be dogged after failing to beat them at home ,outplayed by Luxembourg

Hopefully this is true. He's the type that will go without fuss if he doesn't deliver , as apposed to sucking us dry and barely adding anything hoping to be bought out .
Keep the contract quite bonus focussed - but in general - this is a positive.

If this is correct, and although league results of late have been disappointing, Europe was a real plus point this year and showed how far we can go with proper structures in place.

A 2 year deal will give him more scope to get players signed or re-singed and will attract players in, not knowing who will be in charge next year would prove to be the opposite, then again maybe some current players will not want to play for him, if so I think back to a good point James R made on a podcast last month, 'just who can have a say in who their boss will be, in any industry'

Gerry M tweeting about it and saying his ‘sources’ are adamant it’s true. But remember when Gerry’s sources said that David Healy was going to be the new manager… ( actually all that carry on feels like a million years ago now )

Maybe can we hold off until we see if the best supporters in the world get their way, and kenny is sacked tonight, before we give vinny 2 yrs.

Would Kenny even entertain the idea of returning? Just because Vinny is signing a new contract doesnt mean Peak6 are staying (that will get people excited). Sure it may be the StatsSports lads who are giving him a contract .....

Kenny will be with Ireland for a while, and after that he'll need a rest period to assess the next move. I suspect he'd be hoping league one or championship.

A one year deal looks like they dont' have faith & he'll be fielding offers . The European run deserved 2 years. Now lets tie down key players
