Dundalk V Sligo Rovers | Fri 11 May | 7;45pm | Oriel Park

Postby Ezeikial » Tue May 08, 2018 10:32 pm

Despite Sligo Rovers beating Waterford in the EA Sports Cup quarter finals, they are on a very poor run in the league and will be a long shot to get anything from the match on Friday.

Three points is a must from this match ahead of travelling to Derry on Monday. SK will be working hard to ensure that his team don't take the match for granted.

They tonked us 3-0 after our European performance when we stumbled over the line for the league two years ago. Can't see that happening this time. They are a lot more fragile at the back. 2/3-0 Dundalk

James Rogers tweeting that Mountney will undergo a fitness test prior to this game tomorrow so has chance to play. That presumably means his injury against Bohs was nothing serious, which is great news after the recent luck we've had. Mountney is an important part of the team on the right hand side especially with Gannon missing as he really commits to tracking back and winning possession for us which helps out our the inexperienced deputies in Gano's absence.

Team news

Dundalk will be without the services of Karolis Chvedukas who has a persistent ankle problem, Sam Byrne who has a hamstring injury and Stephen O’Donnell with a broken leg. John Mountney will undergo a late fitness test after he picked up a knee injury in the EA SPORTS Cup quarter-final win over Bohemians while Sam Byrne, Krisztián Adorján and Daniel Cleary all return to contention after knocks.

Potentially good news on Mountney, hopefully his injury won’t be as bad as expected.

I’d like to see Adjoran make an appearance at some stage tonight.

If Mountney is close to fitness, there is hardly a need to take a risk on starting him tonight considering Derry away on Monday and the fact that the Friday-Monday pattern of games continues to the end of the month:

Sligo (h) / Derry (a) / Bohs (a) / Waterford (h) / Bray (h)

Contiuing to play Sean Hoare at right back is far from ideal, us it leaves as weaker there and at centre back where he excels. Georgie Poynton did himself no favours in breaking in to that position against Bohs earlier this week. Presumably Gartland and Folan will start at centre back with either Jarvis or Massey at left back

It was great to see Dean Jarvis do well in the holding midfield spot and I would not be surprised if he got more game time there against Sligo.

SK has a number of options behind Hoban, and he could perm two from three for the wide positions between Connolly, McGrath, Duffy with even Cavalcante with a chance of being considered. Murray is currently in possession of the number 10 position, but it may be the time to get Adorjan back in if he is fit

This from Gavin McLaughlin a couple of days ago
Adorjan and Dan Cleary, who is also suffering with a hamstring strain, are rated doubtful for Friday night’s league encounter with Sligo Rovers at Oriel Park.

Is there any sites that would be streaming the game?

Shocking performance, so many were below par tonight. Still three points though.

A late winner always gives a brilliant feeling. Poor performance, but an excellent 3 points

Good to see we went 2 up front when we needed a goal at least Marco got a couple chances and the two boys seemed to play well together we done that twice this year and won both games alright og against Waterford but both caused panic in there box , Caulfield says he can predict what we do all the time I think we should do this more often

Obviously a lot of enforced changes but we really aren't playing well atm. If anything happened Hoban we'd be in massive trouble.
Massive game Monday now but can't say I'm feeling very confident.

We didn't play well but we missed a cpl of sitters. How did Murray miss that open goal. For me Murray isn't taking his chance of getting the starting number 10 role...Benson is under performing massively as is massey. Hoare most certainly is not a full back and folan should be shot for that header back for their penalty. Connolly was ok in patches. Thought mcgrath wad lively when he came on. For me tagbujami is not a footballer. Sorry does nothing for me up top. But glad that Stephen played 2 up as opposed to taking Hoban off. I like shields but he is not a cultured spray the ball around midfielder. Never was never will be, that's why we will miss skip and have been missing Ronan Finn. Jarvis played well. To be fair only for the cock up for their penalty they would never have scored. They offered absolutely zilch. Massive game Monday. Gladly take a point now...

Did he actually say that? Would be an odd thing to say publicly even if he does think that.

Shed were great tonight and got the team over the line. The team seemed to acknowledge with the extended appreciation at the end. Hoban was one of few stand out players, great performance, followed by Jarvis, Duffus and McGrath when he came on. I thought Massey was good when he came on and Marco tried hard but should have scored with the second header. Hoare did well but out of position and too many crosses from the right when in to the keepers arms. Nobody went near post. Connolly had a bit more confidence and at least tried the right things and won the penalty, looked like a footballer but still needs to get better. Unfortunately Shields and Benson had shockers. Shields has been brilliant all season. Folan just does not look up to the standard, nervy, muscled out of games and makes too many mistakes. We need a big improvement for Monday, come on the town
