Dundalk V Bohs | Tues 5 June | 7:45 | Oriel Park | Leinster Senior Cup

Postby Ezeikial » Sat Jun 02, 2018 1:25 pm

Although it is one of the most beautiful trophies going, it is hard to get any excitement going about the Leinster Senior Cup. After meeting twice so far in the league and once in the EA Sports Cup, there is also little or no novelty attached to the opposition

Presumably Karolis Chvedukas will get a decent run out to take his fitness on, along with other fringe players. Maybe it comes too soon for Sean Gannon, but it was good to see him on the pitch pre-match in Tallaght

The other incentive is that Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght awaits the winners in the quarter finals

Hard to get worked up about this, although I love to see the fringe players in action. I won't be making the trip from Wexford - but roll on Friday and Limerick!

Not sure if it was before KO or during HT last night, but watching Chvedukas hitting volleys against Sava between the sticks has me very excited to see him kick on and hopefully Tuesday night is his chance to get game time.

Reminder about this game as there doesn't seem to be much talk about it.

It was abandoned as a competition for ten years so hard to feel too enthusiastic about it apart from hoping to see some injured players return.

Team news

Stephen O’Donnell (broken leg), John Mountney (knee) and Sean Gannon all remained sidelined however there are no fresh injury concerns following the weekend. There will be many changes as manager Stephen Kenny will shuffle his pack ahead of the league visit of Limerick on Friday evening.

Impossible to predict the starting line-up, but it could be something like this:

------------------------Sava-----------------------
Poynton------Smith-------Folan----------Jarvis
---------------Shields-------Chvedukas----------
Murray--------------Adorjan---------------Byrne
---------------------Tagbajumi-------------------

I think you're 100% on the mark here. Unfortunately, with such a strong squad only one of our U-19 squad will have any chance of a start. Hopefully a few can be sprung off the bench at some stage.

All admission tickets are €5

It's not a major point, but the website preview of the match misses the opportunity to repeat this message although there is a reminder that season tickets are not valid.

I think we have a long way to travel from a marketing and promotions perspective, when even the basics are often overlooked

Dundalk face Bohs tonight in the Leinster Senior Cup in Oriel. Stephen Kenny has confirmed that Gavin Smith, Pablo Cavalcante and Jack O'Keeffe will come in to the squad for it. Karolis Chvedukas and Sam Byrne also expected to play.

Ronan Murray, Sam Byrne and Krisztián Adorján for Dundalk after JJ Lunney opened the scoring for Bohs with a penalty.

Good performances from Krisztián Adorján and Dean Jarvis. Sean Gannon returned to action along with Karolis Chvedukas

If there was any doubt about it beforehand, Stephen Kenny must now be acutely aware that he is bereft of any decent cover for Pat Hoban.

A lot of the commentary tonight sounded identical to the night we played Pats in the League Cup - lads off the pace, chances being missed at one end and being coughed up at the other. And that was a near youths team Bohs had out.

This isn't a criticism exactly, given the insane success we've had the last few years, but a deep squad seems wasted on SK. We play the same 11 week in, week out unless an injury (Gannon) or a complete collapse in form (Connolly) forces the issue. The subs are always predictable and always quite late in a game. I'm all for putting our best 11 on the pitch and obviously I don't see training. But our first choice reserves sound miles away from being ready. Ronan Murray should not be the bit part player he is. Neither should Jarvis or Poynton. If they're good enough for the squad they should be getting more game time. A player should be getting rotated in regularly to be match fit and ready to go when someone breaks down. If we lose Duffy, Hoban or Shields now to injury (to point at the most obvious three), people will bemoan our bad luck with injuries. Fat lot of good it will be if their replacements need 3 or 4 matches to get up to speed.

Same goes for Adorjan and Tagbajumi. What on earth was the point of signing them if they've hardly played 90 minutes out of 21 League matches? Bringing in foreign lads to sit on the bench makes no sense to me. Either they're good enough to play reasonably regularly or they shouldn't be here.
