St Patrick's Ath V Dundalk | Fri 6 July | 7:45pm | Richmond Park

Postby Ezeikial » Tue Jul 03, 2018 12:30 am

As always, the next one is the most important one. The last league encounter in Richmond Park proved to be very difficult and we had to settle for a 0-0 draw. It is vital to come away from Richmond Park with 3 points on Friday.

With 9 league wins on the spin going into this one the confidence will be high, and I have no doubt that SK will have the squad well focused. Presumably Georgie Kelly will make the bench although Patrick McEleney may not be match fit.

Subject to fitness I hope he selects an unchanged team from last Friday, although Dan Cleary will be eager to win his place back

Pats have added to their squad today too. The value in the last win is obviously to refocus and move on and get the result this week. Pat's blow hot and cold but will be a tricky fixture for sure if they are on song. At least there is some proper recover time now. It wouldnt have been too good to have played in such a high intensity game and in that heat Friday and then have to play on a Monday or Tuesday like before the break. Having not seen Kelly play or know too much about him, what type of striker is he - similar to Hoban or more like McMillan say?

Pats were good until the fixture list caught up with them in May. Were supposed to be much better than Bohs but caught by a di Maria esque beauty. Think it will be tough - might need a bit of magic to turn them over.

Perceptive observation form Sean Gannon.

Daniel Cleary will be busting a gut to reclaim his place (why was he dropped last week?) and that could easily see Hoare move back over to right back if there is any drop off from Sean Gannon.

The very fact that he is aware and focused on it, means it is less likely to happen, but the competition across the squad is intense and unlike anything we have had previously

DON'T FIRE THE GANNON Dundalk’s Seán Gannon reckons he cannot take his starting place for granted after Seán Hoare’s impressive spell at right-back
Gannon broke two ribs in April which led to Hoare filling in for the injured defender - and starring in the process

SEÁN GANNON admits that Seán Hoare’s displays in his absence mean he cannot take his place in the Dundalk team for granted.

Gannon has been Stephen Kenny’s first choice right-back for the last five seasons since joining from St Pat’s.

Not much news on John Mountney here. Although "doubtful" implies he is not badly injured, these bulletins tend to be well wide of the mark.

Team news

Captain Stephen O’Donnell remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a broken leg while John Mountney made his return from a medial knee injury on Monday in the Leinster Senior Cup quarter-final win over Shamrock Rovers however is doubtful due to injury for tomorrow. New signings Patrick McEleney and Georgie Kelly are available for selection for the trip after receiving international clearance.

Fagan is finished. Crazy to think Pats had to throw a massive wedge at him to stop him signing for us and he has done nothing since

Adorjan unlucky not to start imo. Think he should be nailing down a spot ahead of Connolly, despite his recent improvement.

Hoare taking Gannon's place with Cleary back in the middle, Gannon probably still needs to be eased back.

1-down halfway through first half. Free header from a corner. Poor enough up to that point. Have to come from behind again, which we're not exactly good at away from home.

If Adorjan's future beyond July was sorted he might very well have started.

Adorjan replaces Duffy, who was fantastic for Shields' goal. He went down injured, hope it was just cramp or something but looked like groin strain.

Rogers makes a great save in injury time. We're being made to sweat... Then 3-1 at the death! Hoban on the break after Pats had won a corner!!!
