Limerick V Dundalk | Fri 31 Aug | 7.45pm | Market's Field

Postby Ezeikial » Tue Aug 28, 2018 11:48 pm

The most effective way to recover from the shock of a defeat is to get back out as quick as possible and bounce back with a win.

It has tended to be a feature of Stephen Kenny's Dundalk teams that they have normally responded well to a setback.

3 points is crucial on Friday night, irrespective of the performance

3 points being crucial is a given, not sure we can say 'irrespective of the performance' though.

We might not have deserved to lose tonight, but we've gotten away with slow starts and lapses of concentration against a number of teams since the summer break. Maybe we'll get away with them again on Friday and the 3 points will be welcome. But continue to play as loosely as we did tonight and it's only a matter of time until we're suckered again.

We need a huge step up in performance. We should be steamrollering our way to the end of the season.

SK mentioned that Friday will be our fifth match in 14 days... it was our choice not to play Sligo during the Euro run. We've had very kind opponents since the Larnaca thrashing - two first division teams and the bottom and 3rd bottom teams in the Premier. We play the second bottom team now twice before the Cork game. I don't want to hear it frankly.

Freshen up with Mountenay , Murray , Kelly - options.

Lads, just play your B team, even your C team , you'll be OK.

One of the joys of being a Dundalk fan is never taking any opponent for granted, even the teams all logic tells us we should beat.

A win with a steamrolling dominant performance would be brilliant.

But given a choice between a brilliant performance but getting caught for a unlucky against-the-run-of-play draw compared with deflected-in-off-someones-bum scrappy 1-0 win, I know which you, I and every Dundalk supporter would opt for.

Performances build confidence, but wins in our next two league match are what are likely to take us towards the title

Stating the obvious but important we are focused on tonight's game and get the 3 points. There has been lots of navel gazing the last few days by fans and am sure players alike. I trust SK will have the team focused - I want to enjoy tonight and feel good about the world again by 9.45 pm.

I hope Mountney gets a full 90 mins on the right wing.

Absolutely agree with this 100%, get him the full 90 minutes because he would be my first choice on the right for the game against Cork.

I'm not a massive Mountney fan, but I reckon he adds a bit more steel when required against the likes of Rovers and Cork. Getting him 90 minutes or 180 minutes against Limerick could be a worthy investment. Having four from Benson, McGrath, Connolly, Duffy, McEleney leaves us vulnerable to being bullied in midfield.

Entirely predictable line up, with maybe Jarvis being the only slight surprise.

Team news

Dundalk will be without Sean Hoare as he was sent off after the full-time whistle on Tuesday. Stephen O’Donnell is recovering from a broken leg and Karolis Chvedukas is likely to miss out once more due to an ankle problem.
