That year Pats in second finished 19 points behind and Derry in third finished 27 behind.
For me it's no coincidence that the year the points record was set was the last year property fuelled LOI spending bought the League before the crash.
What we have done is infinitely more impressive.

That's what tends to happen whenever the league winners gather a large number of points - there tends to be a big gap to the other teams.niall_hearty2000 wrote:We're in a division where 3rd placed rovers are finishing a mile off!!!El Paso wrote:85 is the current record, set by Bohs in a 33 game season in 2008. We can beat that on Friday albeit with two extra games (then again they only scored 55 goals and were in a division with Finn Harps, UCD and Cobh Ramblers finishing miles off)
While we should beat the Bohs record next week against Sligo, they finished with an 2.58 points per match average and a win rate of almost 82% - seriously impressive stuff. To put it in context if we win both of our remaining games we will hit 89 points beating Bohs by 4 points , but with 2.45 points per match average and a win rate of almost 78%

Remember when we had three 0-0 draws in our first 5 league games and weren't sure how it would all pan out...

I think it's unfair to make direct comparisons between 10 and 12 team divisions in terms of strike rate alone.Ezeikial wrote:That's what tends to happen whenever the league winners gather a large number of points - there tends to be a big gap to the other teams.niall_hearty2000 wrote:We're in a division where 3rd placed rovers are finishing a mile off!!!El Paso wrote:85 is the current record, set by Bohs in a 33 game season in 2008. As El Paso pointed out teams 11 and 12 were mere cannon fodder that year, while Bohs only had to play the other top sides 3 times.

Really hope Ronan Murray stays with us, he put in a MOTM performance IMHO & capped it off with his goal.
First half thought both teams cancelled each other out with clear cut chances few & far between. Second period, it seemed Dundalk moved up a gear with our midfield playing high up the park. This resulted in a deserved lead goal from Hoban after a pin point cross from Gannon. After Murray's goal Stepen Kenny cleared the bench & Waterford came more into the game but their pressure was repelled by our back four in particular Haore who had put in a great shift. It was hold on tight after Waterford scored but in the end Dundalk were worthy winners.
Hoban is very close now to the Bradley record of goals scored in a season, hopefully he makes it, a fabulous strike rate & will be richly deserved should he make it.
A decent away support as well, I'd say 200 or so travelled & made plenty of noise. Finally, it was nice to hear some Waterford fans complement our team, their general consensus is Dundalk are the best team they have seen at the RSC this season, fair play.

They are never going to say Cork are a good side in Waterford regardless of it being the truth that we are the best team in the league - we are champions after all!

At some point I may pull together a thread on all the records that have been beaten this season. For now the focus (for me!) is on getting another 3 points to pass Bohs points total record.

Would that mean that we break the previous record season(held by a north Leinster team) for the most records broken in a season?

That's the other challenge... breaking the 2015 team's record for the most records broken in a season! :-)oldfogey wrote:Would that mean that we break the previous record season(held by a north Leinster team) for the most records broken in a season?
