Ruaidhrí Higgins gets a 3 match suspension
James Rogers
‏@jamesdundalk

The FAI have confirmed that Dundalk assistant first team coach Ruaidhrí Higgins has been banned for 3 matches for an incident at the end of the recent Finn Harps game. Harps assistant Paul Hegarty has been given the same suspension. Incredibly harsh on Higgins that

Ludicrous. A certain manager was sent off twice last season including for entering the field of play and got a one match ban on both occasions.

FAI making it up as they go along, just like their refs.

I expect that James or Gavin will update soon via Twitter, probably tomorrow

News is not good........

Chris Shields is due to undergo a scan on a knee injury picked up in the closing stages of Friday's draw with Shamrock Rovers this morning. He and John Mountney are set to miss Friday's game with Waterford with Dean Jarvis also struggling as Dundalk's midfield problems mount.

Gavin McLaughlin's Friday night audio interview with Robbie Benson
Dundalk midfielder Robbie Benson is aiming to be back in action before the mid-season break in June.

The 26-year-old cracked his fibula in the opening game of the season against Sligo Rovers at Oriel Park and underwent surgery two days later.

Benson was at Tallaght Stadium to watch his teammates in the 0-0 draw with Shamrock Rovers on Friday night and, speaking to Dundalk Sport afterwards, he said he had his sights set on playing before the mid-season break.

"The injury could have been a lot worse and I'm happy that I'll be back sooner than I thought originally.

You often hear talk about lucky managers. O’Donnell was Kenny’s only serious injury last year. How many times did we mention how much trouble we’d be in if Shields was injured too. Now look at us - 4 or 5 options out injured 😬

Presumably it means that Sean Hoare or Cameron Dummigan will step in to that position on Friday. Jordan Flores or Joe McKee are other possibilities but either could be required further up in midfield depending on their own fitness levels and that of Sean Murray.

I thought Flores was signed as a 6 to compete with Shields?

Maybe so, although I have not seen anything other than his squad number that indicates this.

He has yet to play in that position so far. In the only match he started that Shields was absent was against Athlone in the LSC - Dylan Hand played at no 6, while Flores was at no 8.

According to James Rogers the club have ruled out that possibility

Quite right too - he's not even remotely up to it at this point and it would make an absolute mockery of signing the likes of Flores, Dummigan and McKee if we even tried it.

We signed Flores with no recent history of game time and without a preseason it was always going to take time for him. Dummigan is a wide player though maybe he can play a central defensive role!? McKee could be an inspired loan signing considering the injury crisis. While its possible that players might be patched up to play Friday it really is unprecedented that you now have 9 or so central midfielders struggling for fitness!
