Linfield V Dundalk | Fri 8 Nov | 7.45pm | Windsor Park | Unite the Union Cup 1st Leg

Post by Ezeikial » Mon Nov 04, 2019 7:53 am

It is a good to get two more matches in so soon after the FAI cup final to give the club, players and supporters the chance to end the season on a higher note.

The mood might be low at the moment, but it should rise for Friday night in Windsor Park. Such sweet memories of the last time we were there in the Setanta Cup

Personally I'm finding it very hard to get enthused about this cup. Maybe cause it's the 1st year of it and it hasn't really gained any momentum but I don't think I'll.lose too much sleep if we don't win it.

Their performance against Qarabag and the IFA reasoning for blocking an AIL is enough for me to hope we do a job on them. Also a decent chance to get the cup final out of the system.

Agree with both of you. After yesterday was a bit of anti climax. I'd imagine it will be hard for the players to lift themselves as well.

Vinny Perth says Dundalk will treat the new competition seriously. David Healy's suggesting Linfield will do otherwise.

So how good are Linfield? I thought IFA football was pants but they had some great results in Europe over the summer

Great mind games from Healy....if they get a hiding they can say we didnt take it seriously...if they get the win they can say....we are better than the LOI as we are...no need to be joining the leagues.

Linfield are taking it seriously enough to move their league match this weekend! And of course their league game is more important, but that's 4 days after the second leg, and that's the case with any cup game. It's a big match, the prize money is probably bigger than the FAI Cup. A chance to test ourselves against the best team in another fairly similar standard league.

Have no interest in this whatsoever. I'm still undecided about going to the home leg but may change my mind if the misery from Sundays result wears off

Not much hope for an AIL if the island’s Champions playing off is of little interest. Doesn’t hold out much hope for Glentoran v St Pats for example.

Healy claims that his job doesn't depend on the performance in the Brexit Cup, but for a team that would collect €40k for winning the league (dwarfed by the European money, I know), the opportunity to pick up another €50k is not to be sniffed at. I suspect he'll be taking it more seriously than he's letting on.

Likewise, another €50k in the Dundalk bank account would probably cover the acquisition of another first-team squad member.

I was on to the club this afternoon to try and get a ticket posted down to me for the home leg but was told they'll be available on the night, for the ground. Slightly surprising, given the security around Linfield's travelling group, but there you have it

That is bonkers. In fairness, it's on a Monday night. Compare it to the Monday night rovers game in the league, where there is even less interest from the home town public, including those of us who will not be bothered travelling from afar, I reckon there'll be as pretty abysmal crowd. Are season tickets even counted?
