Finn Harps V Dundalk | Fri 6 March | 8pm | Finn Park | Matchday 5

Post by Ezeikial » Sat Feb 29, 2020 10:42 pm

The challenge after losing a match is to bounce back quickly and effectively. For the most part we have achieved this in the past, although an away match in Finn Park is hardly the ideal fixture.

Team selection will be interesting, especially if some of the injured players are fit. Is it time to rest Chris Shields or should VP keep picking him to let him play back into form?

Will Colovic start or make a debut from the bench?

Leahy or Massey?

Cleary to return to centre back?

Cleary and Boyle I think. Leahy if fit. No other changes I’d guess although I’d chance Hoare at right back if Gannon is carrying a knock.

Maybe they’ll try this 3-4-3 again if Gannon needs a break? If they did it would probably be:

Hoare-Boyle-Cleary
Sloggett-Shields-Flores-Leahy
Smith-Hoban-Duffy

I would agree with that team EP, hopefully we also see Fats and Murray on the bench

Do you think we played a 3-4-3 formation against Rovers or Shels?

Replacing the full backs with Hoare and Leahy (with Cleary coming in at centre back) will not necessarily mean a change in formation at all -

The midfield did not work effectively in either of the 2 away matches so far

I was just outlining an alternative that he might go with if Gannon and Leahy have knocks that need a rest based on those other 3-4-3 trials

Even if he doesn't start, surely it's probable that Stefan Colovic will make his competitive debut on Friday night

Can we expect the dressing rooms to be flooded and pitch to be narrowed accordingly for this one?

Team news

Similar situation to last week with Darragh Leahy could return to the squad after suffering a minor ankle setback. Sean Murray and Patrick McEleney are both a couple of weeks away with hip and achilles injuries respectively. Other than that, there are no suspensions to contend with.

Agreed, I dont think its the ideal place either for a starting place IMO.

Id imagine it will be

Rogers,
Gannon, Cleary, Boyle, Leahy
Sloggett, Shields
Smith Flores Duggy
Hoban

Although I think Dan Kelly in with a good shout for a start. Depending on if Gannon is fit or not we could perhaps see Hoare at RB or 3 CB of Hoare Boyle Cleary
