Lads if the FAI get 100 million per year over 10 years, sure only 20 million will land in the LOI. They will find a way of skimming it away, JD may be gone, however many of his loyalist supporters are still there.

The Government aren't going to give funds for the craic. The Delaney days were expos,ed so the onus will be on the FAI to use the funds in the right areas. That's assuming it is approved.

I'd imagine its the FAI overshooting the runway hoping that it comes back with 60/70 million a year. Government won't grant it without the FAI coming with a detailed costed plan on how they intend to spend it. I really hope it does happen, you'd hope a significant portion of it will end up going into the mens and womens leagues rather than paying off debt or building white elephants

I missed the story over Christmas but synthetic pitches with crumb rubber infill are to be banned in the EU soon and a complete ban on fully synthetic surfaces to follow.
Thankfully so, glad I didn't grow up playing on these , the health implications of injesting microplastics have been a concern for a decade or more.

This has huge implications for the club. If the playing surface is to go back to grass, there is absolutely no way it can sustain a Senior side, 4 boys teams, and 2 girls teams. Looks like the club need an academy/training ground first before they think about redeveloping OP/ building a new Stadium. Finding suitable land that is not already zoned will be a big issue.

If it meant being forced to go back to grass that would be great, the surface doesn't cause injuries, but its no good for recovery from injuries.

Pity we don't have anywhere to pull it up and re-lay it, but it will be challenging ok to accommodate all of the other teams apart from the seniors, my guess is if a new grass one goes in, it will be first team only.

Then where do the other teams play, what do the other 8 clubs in PD do who have grass for their other sides?

Shamrock Rovers have the Roadstone facility for underage games. Cork City have Bishopstown. Not a great facility. There was plans for a Centre of excellence for Munster teams at Glanmire, but that has stalled for a few years.

Thats right I remember now, plus Pats and Bohs have an arrangement too with another non league club for training. We need to be thinking of something, to add to the massive list of items to improve in OP.

Yeah Bohs have a player pathway link up with St kevins, but DCU is where they are based for training.

Whilst crumb rubber infil will be banned, they’re are eco friendly alternatives being tested at the moment including ground cork (wine bottle cork) which is non toxic. The reality in Ireland given our climate is that artificial pitches are a necessity and whilst we may not like it, many juvenile coaches and teams welcome the opportunity to train and play on them where winter football is in order. Sligo set up is perfect template for us if the club can secure land adjacent to the main ground or partner with a local school and lift the artificial surface and relay it locally it would give us the Sligo model.

We've used DKIT's pitches before. I wonder would that be an option again along with the soccerdome for training.
