If the club is splitting they'll need to be careful they don't both lose out on this.

I agree. Its not often we get a team into Europe. For the good of the whole town I hope this is sorted out before we make National headlines for all the wrong reasons, again.

Can anybody tell me what the split is over. It seems to be a shame with the team doing so well

At the Dundalk City AGM a proposal to merge with Dundalk FC was passed by a majority vote. Thus the formation of Dundalk Ladies FC occured. IMO this was an obvious thing to occur as Dundalk City were all but officially the ladies team of DFC, same colours, same crest, Oriel as the home venue. Now somwhere along the line some, or more like one person didnt appreciate the merger and the subsequent possibility of a dilution of associated control or responsibility. Instead of abiding by the norm of majority rule the dissenting voice formed the breakaway club of Dundalk City ladies. There were a few smoke screens layed by claiming that the new Dundalk Ladies team would have to make tea and sandwiches at the mens games, this is untrue and the club have reiterated this on numerous occaisons. If a misunderstanding on this occured, and im not convinced it did, it certainly was exploited. The better of the players have stayed with Dundalk Ladies FC. As Dundalk City are THE breakaway club(regardless of them being the original club), they cannot recieve the european place. Other determining factors are that Dundalk City could not play a european game that is not in Oriel, Bellurgan i believe will be the new home for Dundalk City is unsuitable for a european tie at any grade. Financially the newest club of Dundalk City are unlikely to be able to afford a european trip anyhow, and with Gerry Matthews saying that he will pay for Dundalk Ladies to travel it will be an open and closed decision. All in all Dundalk Ladies FC are the leagally formed club and the City team are not the team that qualified by winning the wfai cup. They are simply conception of one mans ego.....

Thats it in a nutshell without all the sh#t and red herrings! All very sad really where a team and friendships have split

Thanks dell. Very sad indeed. It'll be tough for the ladies who miss out playing in europe because of this row

Since it was agreed at an AGM to join with Dundalk FC (on trial) then it should be the team associated with DFC.

The ability of Irish people to cause splits when they don't get their way never ceases to amaze me.

It is ridiculous that they split when the amalgamation is for a trial period of one or two seasons. I wonder will Dundalk City (the breakaway) provide underage football for girls now. I doubt it because it is one person with his own agenda.

Anyone else think that somebody needs to bang some heads together? This whole thing makes no sense and is not going to benefit anybody.

I have to say I am not fully up to speed on the whole womens thing at DFC but surely the team that actually won the cup would be the one that enters? Or is that squad firmly split down the centre?

It can't be split down the centre if a majority voted to join Dundalk FC.
