Suggestion for forum

Post by Sarge »

Hey everyone ,

Out of pure disgust of the way the forum has been going now I would like to urge the site admins and moderators to start ruling with a iron fist a bit more. I think that a charter with rules is a MUST now at the stage . I believe that slowly we will lose some very valuable members and their posts/contributions due to the trolls and spam that has happened on the forum over the last number of months.

Most people here that use boards.ie will know that i moderator a couple of forums there and moderate them quiet well also , with all types of traffic , I will help in anyway I can to form a Charter / Rule if needs be.

I Like comming here to check news and read views/opinions but this even for me is wading and I'm sure there is other members that feel the same as me.

SO lets do something about it.

It already has to be honest.

Think the mods are pro free speech, though I think too many people have abused this and has resulted in topics becoming a chat amongst two people or a slagging match.

Also the over use of text speak is really annoying.

the rules are stickied somewhere above, the mods on boards.ie and foot.ie are more than a tad touchy imo, several "decent" posts of mine have been pulled and barring threats issued,in the main i think the forum runs ok and most of the posters will take miscreants down a peg or 2 when the need arises, too much moderation can destroy the normal flow of posts,if it aint broke dont fix it

I am pretty new to this mod lark but I know that Colin is indeed all for the free speech. He is on a different daytime to Ireland these days so its difficult for him to keep up with the usual day postings which is why I was asked to help out.

Chats amongst people are supposed to be on PM, personal abuse is not acceptable (hence the bannings) and unless it is going to be relevant to the thread or of relevance to the readers then it is not helpful to post.
The guidelines are here:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6432&p=95337

By my reckoning 8 people have been told about personal abuse in the last few weeks and that could probably be easily double by now. Two are gone as of this evening following ignoring of the polite pointing to the rules.

Also bear in mind that the few people that use multiple accounts that your IP is logged and it is just as easy to ban by IP as by username, ye know who ye are.

Start off small, Get rid of the text speak. It people can't be arsed to write out a sentence then they should not be on here.

I also have closed registration on the forum possibly until we get the season off and running.

And even then I think I will ask for the prospective members to email me (and Duffman) directly to ask for membership so we can gauge whether they have the level of human relationship skills to make a good contribution to the board.

You think we like constantly having to monitor, ban and lock? In all honesty it's a pain in the arse and quite deflating.
