Brian’s quotes were a little hypocritical, when saying in 2021 their manager wasn’t able to focus on building for 2022 as he was thinking about Dundalk instead. When Pats approached him to be their head coach in August 2019 (without permission as far as I know) we were trying to get a quadruple over the line and SOD scouted our upcoming opponents as well as future signings so it derailed us somewhat, although we did what we always tried to do which was he resilient and deal with things as they come up, and we did go on to win four trophies. I didn’t see Brian mention that anywhere though. And while we are at it he was also wrong to suggest talks between SOD and DFC were happening during the 2021 season as to the best of my knowledge the new owners only took control of the club after the season finished. Anyway I digress…

I don’t think this is going to be something that comes up any time soon, Dundalk have been great for Nathan and I know he’s very happy there at the club and in the town. As a result of his performances at Dundalk he started for the Wales U21 side tonight, which was a big reason we tried to get him to Oriel, so I don’t see any reason to go anywhere else for the foreseeable. Would personally love to see him playing in European games next summer all being well.

Dundalk qualifying for Europe next year could be key to a lot of players staying and obviously others joining, plus as I stated on another thread our current coefficient is 8.5**and this shouldn't drop any lower than 7.5 or 7 next season, which will be good enough to be seeded in two rounds, and that's a huge advantage.
**It was 10.5 in 2021, highest ever by any Irish club.

The save at 4.35 is obviously first class, but I think his calm collection of the ball in a very difficult phase of pressure at 5.13 was just superb. Both were around 15 mins to go also, he played massive part in the 1-0 win v Pats, how he didn't get MOTM is beyond me.
Nathan has been just fantastic this season, very important player and seems to be getting more confident by the week.

Macari staying for another 5 months makes sense for everyone. His rate of progress has been staggering, and shows no sign of stopping. Stoke will get a very good player back from this loan.

Mentioned on the PressBox that the club are working on tying down Nathan Shepperd on a longer deal than the initial 1 year +1 year option.
Would be fantastic business for us long term.

Completely agree, he will go back with so much more experience playing for 4-5 more months in a settled team, and winning, challenging even, compared to going back to Stoke and with their reserves.White Horse wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 7:21 pm Macari staying for another 5 months makes sense for everyone. But will be their call, he's their player, but signs appear to be good we will have him for rest of season.
For Connolly, its an open secret they are desperate to hold on to him, hopefully they can sort out a deal, brilliant first 4 months, he's been 8/10 most games.
As for Shepherd, great to see they are officially talking to him, be magic to have him longer than 1+1 year deal.

Need to get this sorted asap as rovers will be sniffing. They badly need to replace Mannus, and it would be looking like Nathan or Talbot at the moment realistically.mike wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 7:08 pmCompletely agree, he will go back with so much more experience playing for 4-5 more months in a settled team, and winning, challenging even, compared to going back to Stoke and with their reserves.White Horse wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 7:21 pm Macari staying for another 5 months makes sense for everyone. I'd say rovers are nailed on to sign McGinty from Sligo

Second best keeper in the league in my view - after Shepperd.
The Back of the Wall
They come in packs of 5 - and I need 6
