Can't remember which journo said it but they reported a few clubs have started offering these contacts and it means one year with an option for the club to extend

That's correct, its basically 2 years as long as the player does well in the first year and club wants to keep him. Club holds the advantage I think, almost sure Sheps and Adams were on these, club obv decided to activate year 2 of Shep but not for Adams.

I don't understand why Adams wasn't given another year on his contract option, thought he worked hard enough to earn it.

Ah mike he was just ok. Not disappointed to see him go and would have been meh if he had stayed on. Basically we could do a whole lot better but equally a whole lot worse too. Would he be in a league winning starting 11?
