Dundalk v Wexford FC | Pre Season Friendly | Tuesday 07 February 2023 ko 19.45

Post by oldfogey »

Overall a bit disappointed last night as I was expecting more. A number of Drogheda players seemed quicker than us. We did create chances though and if we keep getting the ball in the box goals will come. A number of players - particularly Benson and Leahy - are short of playing time and are unlikely to be match fit come the UCD game. Rolled ankles for both and Doyle and Shepperd is a concern but they should be fine for Tuesday, according to the manager.

Robbie McCourt had a hernia operation this week and John Mountney is only getting a second opinion on the 16th, so we are unlikely to see either in the near future. There was no mention of Daniel Kelly, although he was there last night. Anyone else think he was still walking with a slight limp?

Easy to see why O'Donnell is involving so many of the u19s. It's highly likely they will be involved during the season, possibly in Europe. Remember that "home grown" rule that resulted in Will Patching being left out of the Euro squad?

I wouldn't say I was disappointed last night. Bottom line is all it was is another preseason friendly. Ultimately the result doesn't matter. It's more minutes in the legs at a match tempo. Working on shapes and formations. For all we know the team may well have trained in the morning as well . We created a few decent chances that were fluffed but it's better to take the risks and fluff things in this kinda fixture and kick on for ucd in a fortnights time.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.
