Re: Ground improvements
For a supporters club that is very low. There is 269 members in total .there is average of 2k attending games so you'd expect more interest in a supporters club

It's utterly extraordinary. I know (or I hope) it's aimed at buttering up the Irish community in the US, but fukk me, throwing half a million quid at a privately owned ground in the richest country in the world,, where else would you get it!

Re: Ground improvements
Not a fan of these pitches, but how do we get out of this and back to grass ?
Yes it can be laid quite quickly and lucky for us grass grows almost every month in Ireland apart from Dec and Jan, but what cost will be it, and how can we fund it?
Just another item to add to the long list that needs fixing.

Vinny Perth was speaking about the Oriel surface on the Rte podcast. He said it would be a figure of 400k to lay a new grass pitch.. 42 min inmike wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 7:21 pm Not a fan of these pitches, but how do we get out of this and back to grass ?

Re: Ground improvements
Not sure about 400k for a new grass surface, 60-80k for new grass surface depending on condition of drainage etc but I’d expect there to be a cost involved in lifting the existing carpet and maybe that contributes to the cost Vinny refers to
However the opportunity cost would be significant as we would have to look for another pitch for the 4 male youth teams and 2 (or 3?) female teams every week. We don’t have to worry about that at the moment with the Astro surface.

Re: Ground improvements
Other clubs have to manage with the same amount (if not more) teams playing week in week out.
Its just a pity there is no obvious place to re-lay the 4g and keep that for other teams, having the grass for first team, but as much as so many other things need changing / improving, will anything happen over the short term, probably not.

Re: Ground improvements
Exactly Mike. Other clubs are able to get all their other teams matches played so can't be using them as a constant excuse for lack of progress.
Bring back grass now! It's for playing on, not just for the shed.

FAI Plan for the next 15 years, looks like an attempt to create a proper structure with facilities upgraded at all levels. Would be class if it happens but doubt it'll come close https://extra.ie/2023/06/06/sport/socce ... h-football
