Yeah misheard the Latvian team beforehand. Ireland making hard work of beating teams like Lavtia, ranked 144th in the world. They can't afford to get beaten in June by Greece, a draw against France would be huge.

Current UEFA rankings have Latvia above us in 35th with us in 36th .. France and Netherlands 5th and 6th with Greece in 19th. So we are bottom of the group on rankings. Finishing 3rd will be a successful campaign.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.

Ireland are 3rd seeds in the Group and ranked 48th. Greece 4th seeds ranked 51.
It's a make or break campaign for Stephen Kenny.

Watching Kenny's Ireland v France was reminiscent of watching Dundalk v Zenit. A great effort but sadly the gulf in player quality is just as pronounced.
Strangely the general football public seem to be very much behind him. Finishing fourth in the group would be the end of him though I fear

They were unlucky to be landed in such a group but that was down to the seedings. Ireland haven't done well in the Nations League. The Greece game in June in the heat will be tough, but they have known the date for a while.
Mikey Johnston has been a good addition to the Squad. Ogbene has improved a lot since he played LOI. He had talent the,n but has developed physically and capable of playing in a few positions

Can someone explain did somebody from the FAI agree to go to Greece and Gibraltar in June, or where these match dates imposed on them. If so, who makes these decisions. The draw seems to have cmpounded SKs difficulty in qualifying.

Ueffa decides the dates of the Euro Qualifier games. If it was a friendly game , Stephen Kenny and the FAI would have a say.
They are spending 10 days in Turkey before the match to acclimatize to the warm conditions.

I think the signings made before the season started and the Connolly affair too shows that we wouldn’t have the money

Depends where he wants to settle. His wife is from town and has young kids. Dundalk might suit them.Martin Lawlor80 wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2023 2:23 pm I think the signings made before the season started and the Connolly affair too shows that we wouldn’t have the money

One for the ex players and European thread.... Junior scores both goals as Glentoran beat Cliftonville to win the Irish League playoff and qualify for Europe
