Dundalk v Derry 16/4/2023
Don't see a thread on this yet.
Refixed from Friday to Sunday, kick off at 3:00 pm
Hoban should be fit?
Far from an easy task, but a win would swap things around and see ending the weekend in 5th, anything less leaves us in 8th.

Improved performance. Have to say I like the back line more without Boyle in it for some reason. Strangely, without him, Leahy seemed to have a better performance. Williams very solid, however if you make a challenge like his you have to get the ball or you know where you are going. On another note ... am I alone in the feeling that the ref has a crush on Higgins? Felt like he was giving us nothing from the start.

Fourth official was on sod's case the entire game yet Higgins and his assistant were allowed to roam wherever they wanted or as far as they liked outside the technical area.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.

Re: Dundalk v Derry 16/4/2023
The 4th official was ridiculous. At one point, SOD was at the edge of his technical area, still inside it and the 4th official came over to tell him to move back. I was sure he was intent on getting Skip sent off.
On the game itself, the was a great 2nd half. If we keep up that kind of performance we'll be ok. When we switched Davis back to right back and went with 2 wingers, we were much more positive.

Thought we pretty much matched Derry until Sloggett when off injured then they were on top until Hoban came on. Just shows how much we rely on a couple of players. Our strongest team is a match for anyone even if there are a couple of passengers but we struggle when we're missing players. A real shame that Williams was red carded as that was his best game for us by a long way and he was starting to look comfortable. Could have no centre halves available for Shelbourne.
Ref was poor enough but when are they not.

Mad how we can have differant opinions on the same game ,I thought we were awful apart for10 mins .Louth4sam wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 7:25 pm Thought we pretty much matched Derry until Sloggett when off injured then they were on top until Hoban came on. My usual rant about flares ,the steward was literally standing right beside the boy holding the flare in front of the shed ????Also, the stewards very quick too evict a couple of Sligo fans for flares ,,not so quick today against the Derry fans

Missed most first half as only back from weekend away, actually thought quite encouraging second half.
Going 2-1 up was mad stuff, but a draw was a fair result, a point stops the rot, now lets keep it going.
I think Derry will win the league, so its not a bad point given our recent form.

First half was very poor. Dundalk didn't have a shot on target.. Derry were the better team and unlucky with the Diallo.volley. second half was more open. Crazy 60 seconds cost Derry. Yli - kokko showed good composure for the goal but gets brushed off the ball too easily

Don't get me wrong I didn't think we were particularly brilliant just that we matched Derry during those spells. Derry were poor enough, in fact nobody has really stood out this season for me apart from Rovers even with their bad start.Alanek wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 7:56 pmMad how we can have differant opinions on the same game ,I thought we were awful apart for10 mins .Louth4sam wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 7:25 pm Thought we pretty much matched Derry until Sloggett when off injured then they were on top until Hoban came on. Ref and 4th official were atrocious. Ref gave us nothing. Hard to believe he gave a free out when Benson was taken down in the box. I agree that Williams had a good game, won headers and looked composed.

I mat have to rescind my programme article defending referees. Anyway, decent second half performance, incredible the difference a half-fit Hoban makes. Fairly encouraging display given all the injuries. Derry are very mediocre, Rovers will win it at a canter sadly

Thought he was wrong side of Derry attackers for their 2nd goal, plus his auto red (correct card) will see him miss min 2 games.Martin Lawlor80 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 16, 2023 11:34 pm Ref and 4th official were atrocious.
