I think you have the wrong Danny and I’m a bit too old and distant to be in the SSA. Might be wrong but I don’t think they’re as organised a unit as is being made out here.

Very sincere apologies if that's the case.DanielSexton wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 11:51 am I think you have the wrong Danny and I’m a bit too old and distant to be in the SSA. Might be wrong but I don’t think they’re as organised a unit as is being made out here.

Re: Certain element of our fan base.
The same lads who were organised enough to be making statements to get rid of our former owners (representing the SSA or linking themselves with them) are very quiet on this matter. Surely they would be the very people to get at the table, same goes for the lads complaining about their banners, paint etc. going missing from the YDC last season or the people who were looking for online financial donations for banners etc.DanielSexton wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 11:51 am I think you have the wrong Danny and I’m a bit too old and distant to be in the SSA. What you are doing here is saying that anyone that does something anti social or dangerous in the Shed is automatically a member of the Shedside army and their responsibility. If you know the lads who make the banners are the same lads throwing flares on the pitch then fair enough deal with them. But who are you demanding a statement from? The executive committee?

No what I am saying is that those who make the banners and others in the Shed know who these people are as do top officials within the club. They have been ignoring it for years .... action has to be taken by the club, before it is taken against the club. As I said previously, the SSA do great things, however just like they can organise protests, fundraisers or public statements, it is now time for the same people say ... No to Pyro. The same lads will be crying if Health and Safety close the Shed.

Currently in the shed at the UCD match. You can clearly tell the difference between the lads that we all know as the SSA and the young scrotes that launch flares on the pitch and act like spa’s at away days. We need to be very careful we’re not blaming the lads that have been going for years and who put themselves at the firing line last year to get peak6 out and confuse them with the younger set of fans in the shed who seem to not give a rats about the club.
The natural balance of Irish football has returned for good.

Agreed, I think it's most likely a new wave of supporters around the 15-17 bracket that have only started supporting LOI post covid. Seems to be increased attendances across the league and it's happening a lot of clubs. They're naive and essentially mimicking behavior seen from EPL fans and banter videos on twitter.
Really weak stuff, throwing flares on the pitch is such a scumbag act.

The SSA had no problem posting statements on its Twitter account re the previous owners and other stuff that happened over the past 2 years , yet their SM accounts are completely silent on the biggest issue facing the club at present, so yes they deserve criticism imo.DanielSexton wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 7:19 pm What you are doing here is saying that anyone that does something anti social or dangerous in the Shed is automatically a member of the Shedside army and their responsibility. I would ( and have on OW ) include the 1903 supporters club in this as well, although they are barely in existence a year to be fair. I’m a member btw . I posted here before that the anti social behaviour that’s costing the club money should AT THE VERY least be on the next meetings’ agenda.

I wouldn’t agree with this. Flares and scumbags have been tolerated in Oriel for the past number of years. It’s nothing new. The club and fans in the shed know who these boys are but seem to be afraid of dealing with it .Towelie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 10:32 pm Agreed, I think it's most likely a new wave of supporters around the 15-17 bracket that have only started supporting LOI post covid. I wouldn’t bring my kids to the shed or to away games.

If I remember correctly, there was also a 'Schooligan' wave in the mid-2000s across the league, and seems we are back in this cycle again. Same stories of hanging around the singing section, aping english fans, and acting hard outside of grounds.Towelie wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 10:32 pm Agreed, I think it's most likely a new wave of supporters around the 15-17 bracket that have only started supporting LOI post covid. I could be wrong with this, but Drogheda had a fair problem for a while. They also had a fairly active Ultras group with plenty of colour and great displays. I was told (although take it with a pinch of salt), the majority of the Famous 45 got some kind of ban, and ended up killing the atmosphere at the games and a big decline in attendance (Town the size of Drogheda that is fairly football centric should have a bigger base than it has). Didnt solve the issues as the scrotes remained for a while, causing trouble outside of grounds before losing interest until recently.
I hate to be reactionary and think that all somewhat loud and passionate fans should be banned (like Drogheda did), as mass bans would kill what we love about the Shed. We should look for other ways to have a lively shed with plenty of colour and noise. If the SSA wants to be taken seriously, they need to identify the main troublemakers to the club (for bans), while getting some sort of self-discipline (inside and outside the ground).
I'd say that it is these schooligans first time going to games (with first time drinking) in groups of mates, having never went with parents or older lads, hence never thought how to act watching football...... there is a serious lack of socialisation in how to follow the club (hence aping English fans behaviour). Some active effort setting standards from the club and other fans (which is harder to do right), these lads could become more productive fans (although there are always some who are just thuggish, and need to be sorted the harsher way).

Re: Certain element of our fan base.
Just to be consistent on this. I was very critical on here about the flares etc that have been leading to big fines for the club. I think there’s been 3 or 4 matches now without them so that’s a positive development. Maybe it should be acknowledged by the club?
There was a great atmosphere at last night’s rovers game. Our fans didn’t stop singing throughout the whole match , so it shows that an atmosphere can be created without the use of flares and pyro.
Fair play to Connolly as well for making sure the players went over to acknowledge the travelling support.
I presume rovers will get a fine for the pitch invader who got half way across the pitch before being stopped by one of their players and then did the worst Ronaldo goal celebration I’ve ever seen

Plenty of comments about the lack of professional stewards in Oriel from myself included. What the hell were the professional stewards in Tallaght doing last night. Fair play to Lopes getting him off as if you were waiting for the stewards to get him off he'd still be on the pitchMartin Lawlor80 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 10:36 amI presume rovers will get a fine for the pitch invader who got half way across the pitch before being stopped by one of their players and then did the worst Ronaldo goal celebration I’ve ever seen

That happens at some of the biggest and best policed venues in the world. It can't be stopped a lot of the time. The difference is that there are enough stewards and garda in Tallght to prevent a situation like we saw in Drogheda. Wouldn't be able to prevent it in Oriel.Louth4sam wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 6:31 pmPlenty of comments about the lack of professional stewards in Oriel from myself included.
