Re: 2022 Rumours | Transfers | Contract Renewals v2
Kinda reminds me of Ian Fosters last squad. Very reliant on a 3/4 big players, not much going on in defence, weak goalies.
We had heard our budget would be competitive, now that could mean a lot of things, but its looking like mid table competitive. Any serious injuries to Hoban and/or Boyle and we could be in a spot of bother.

Have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed with our recruitment in comparison to our rivals. Benson and Connolly the stand outs, the rest are essentially punts who could either thrive or flop. It's really hard to know how things are going to pan out.
It was to be expected though as it was mentioned by Dan McDonnell that 2022 was to be more of a consolidation year and then for the 2023 season there'd be a significantly increased budget.
Significant increased budget in 2023 would likely depend on Dundalk getting European football this season.
Sherbourne could be a dark horse to do well this season. A few players brought in from Finn Harps and Longford like Mark Coyle, Sean Boyd, O Driscoll could improve under Damien Duff with a full time set up.

We are relying pretty heavily on young British players. Its a pretty big risk, and there are a lot more questions than answers with the tea,. Would definitely like more cover in across the defense (esp at full back).
The more I think about it, the Keith Ward signing is very strange. The more minutes on the pitch he gets, I feel like the lower we will finish in the table.
Although... definitely back SOD, and its a long term project. Its a new team, and it will take a while to get back to challenging,

With a a first team made up with a lot of young players we could be getting very inconsistent results all season. I do think that eventually we’ll go on a good run as the players we’ve signed are apparently technically very good but it might be a very slow start to the season.
I’m not bothered about Flores. We can’t afford another player with a dubious injury record. He scored a screamer in Tallaght and set up a goal in the cup final but apart from that I wasn’t overly impressed.

Shelbourne won't get Europe they havet got a strong team to compete at top table duff is likely to walk if results don't go his way.

Re: 2022 Rumours | Transfers | Contract Renewals v2
At the end of the last game of 2021 season, I had a chat with member of the new group, it was made clear and since was confirmed, there would be no huge spending as the club needed to re-adjust and stabilise.
Hoban was the marque 'signing' followed by Benson, then probably Connolly, Sloggett, Leahy and Dan Kelly, these are players other clubs would have really gone for, especially the first two.
I think supporters need to be realistic for 2022, if we got 4th I'd be very happy, but still think europe should be the aim, Pats have signed ok, but a lot relies on Eoin Doyle, plus 5 massive players left in their GK, Alfie Lewis, Benson to us, Lee Desmond and today Matty Smith, so although they are more settled than us, they are not that much better off. Flores was a player I liked, but read online he only played 20 games all of calendar year 2021.
Once we can tighten up at back, pair Connolly with Boyle, same in MF with Sloggett and Benson, and if Hoban scores most games, we should be very competitive.
For those disappointed no margue signings - this time last year it was Abibi, Sonni, Han and Zahibo later, Magilton still at the club, p6 and their attitude it was pure toxic, and only for that 6 game win at home run from Sept, we could have gone down.
I am a little worried though on MF options, just think we are far too 'light' and could get bullied / dominated early games by the likes of Rovers / Derry, in my view it was an oversight for SOD not to go for an enforcer type no 6 /holding MF man, unless Paul Doyle steps up and becomes that animal?

LMFM linking us with Lewis Macari (19) on loan from stoke. He is a defender ( CB i think).
He is the grandson of Lou Macari ex Man United.

5 loans would be too many imo. A Quarter of the squad.
Big gamble going on here...cork tried this...

I don’t think having so many loanees is good for building for the future unless there is a condition that they can be signed at the end of the loan.

Anyone heard anything about the right back? If the Arsenal link is to be believed then this lad would match the profile.

It is super hard to tell what these lads are going to be like from the UK. I am hoping that they are quality players.. but who really knows. I wonder how they were recommended them, and what role Statsport played (and what promises were made to them)
Here's how football manager 22 rates them:
Sheppard: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/28 ... n-shepperd
Adams: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/29193536-joe-adams
Williams: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/28 ... l-williams
Bradley: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/61 ... en-bradley
Lewis Macari: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/29 ... wis-macari
(Must be coming in as depth at the centre back position. )
Zak Swanson https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/28 ... ak-swanson
(Seems highly rated, FM says his wages at Arsenal is 2300 euro a week)
For Context:
Hoban: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/52 ... rick-hoban
Slogget: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/52 ... g-sloggett
Boyle: https://fminside.net/players/2-fm-22/52 ... andy-boyle
If we added a starting right back, that would seem to be a decent team forming. You would love to have Shields back in that team.

STATSports probaly had a role as have links to the English markets. But O Donnell brought in loans from the Uk when he was Pats manager, Alfie Lewis, Jaros, Melvin Lambert.
Cork City brought in a lot of loans the season they went down. Some came from big clubs like Arsenal, but Cork never seemed united under Fenn.
