Phoenix Patterson on fire for Waterford. Surely we should be trying to tempt him to sign for us.

I think we've missed the boat on him, should've made an approach last season when his stock wasn't as high, but we were in a state so not doable. He'll have his pick of clubs in the PD, I think he'd definitely start here. Imagine O'Kane on one wing and Patterson on the other.Carrick_Road wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 4:26 pm Phoenix Patterson on fire for Waterford. Surely we should be trying to tempt him to sign for us.

Waterford tied down most of their key players a few days after being relegated last season. I don't think it would have made a difference if O Donnell had been in place.

A win for Cork City tonight gets them promoted. Better for the league to have a club the size of Cork back in Premier.
Turners Cross is an excellent ground with a great atmosphere.

Re: 2022 Season General Thread
Too early to do a 2023 thread, and a lot will depend on if we make europe, but was thinking this week of one area that we should be (hopefully) well served, the front 3.
...............Kelly.........Hoban.........O'Kane
Some pace / deliveries / hold up / goals in that trio.

We might need three new defenders for next year. Keeping hold of Leahy is massive.
Dan Kelly is too injury-prone to base a whole season on. More depth there is needed, as is at Striker (Loughran from UCD or maybe Williams from Drogheda).
Find a clone of Connolly... Thats what we need.

Re: 2022 Season General Thread
I think it will all depend on if we get europe the quality we can recruit, if we miss out we might have a Shels type budget. That might sound drastic, but if you think of it, would mean last euro pay out would have been summer 2021 (paid in respect of summer 2020 games played - a year after), nothing for summer 2022 and nothing for summer 2023, meanwhile wages and a host of other big bills all to pay out.
If we make it, will be significantly bigger budget than this season I would imagine, better chance then of enticing the 'best of the rest' after Rovers and Derry. Plus remember our coefficient** will see us seeded two rounds min, which gives good chance of 500k. Its really massive to get europe, not only for budget but for a carrot to offer something to a player.
**Coefficient will reduce every season too that we miss out, if we miss 2023 I think the next available chance would be qualify with only hope of one round seeded.
In a nutshell, we abs need to make europe.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Colm Whelan. He was poised for Lincoln before he ruptured his ACl in May. It generally takes 9 months recovery. A move to England is probably off the cards.
Rovers will probably be in for him.

A LOI select being mentioned for a friendly against a Pl team during the WC
https://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/soccer ... p_AppShare
Also mentioned of a LOI team playing 3 games in Perth https://t.co/U2XvtCOQHp
They didn't fulfull the Unite the Nations tournament last year so be ironic if a team went to Australia.

If it's a 20 man squad I could see Hoban, Benson, Sheps and maybe Boyle getting in.

Being totally unbiased, who would you pick as your starting eleven from the LOI in 2022, if this Perth tour goes ahead, ignoring current injuries to players.ie Hoban. Who deserves to be the manager?

Re: 2022 Season General Thread
I doubt it would be a current manager, maybe someone like Liam Buckley.
There could be a lot of out of contract players putting themselves in the shop window. Aaron McEneff is playing in Perth.

Shepperd
Lyons
Lopes
Connolly
Leahy
Duffy
Forrester
Patching
Byrne
McEleney
Hoban
Just went with Leahy because I can't think of any stand out left fulls off the top of my head. Shepperd over Mannus might be a bit biased but I think he's done better with a less settled and familiar back 4 in front of him. You could maybe make the argument of putting young Sam Curtis at right full and swapping Lyons onto the left.

That's a good team. Gaffney and Aidan Keena would be alternatives to Hoban if not fit. Cameron Dummigan could probaly slot in at left back.
Joe Redmond, Neil Ferrugia, Shane Farrell, Barry Cotter, would probaly be in the Squad on current form
