Surely if Shields returned it would paint him as a complete liar as to the reasons he left? i.e family/commute and all that stuff he made up to get away from the shitshow?

2 Group stage qualifications were obviously good financially. But Shamrock Rovers were still able to offer a more lucrative contract to Ronan Finn after 2016, plus work outside of football. All of the players from that 2016 Squad got big bonuses for that Qualification, plus paying for flights to St Pettersburg and Tel Aviv and a good chunk of money was gone.

Shamrock Rovers have made 3 million from just the Gavin Bazunu transfer. That's what Dundalk made in 2020 for Group stages.

Mike I think the catalyst for us dominating was Kenny. He doesn't get the u21 gig he wouldn't be national manager now and would possibly have built that dynasty in oriel.

Most clubs and at all levels only get 50% of the actual figure, DFC, 6m in 2016 (3m after all charters / bonus / other exps), same for Real M if they win 30M, they will tank 50% on same. We had 3m in bank start of 2017, plus that 3m from 2020 (again 1.5 net to be fair, P6 seem to have left that), its still a fair sum.

Plus if we look back on a legacy, Sligo built a stand behind their railway end goal from 2012 league winning / europe, Rovers have built and built (off the pitch), we have virtually nothing to show for 2 EL group stages, yes appears to be around 1m in the bank, but almost nothing done to Oriel for fans*

*Fully aware YDC cost 1m or so, and new pitch 500k or so, and add in planning fees same paid to LCC, but the visual look of the ground and for fans improvement has been virtually zero, after 2 EL group stages.

Can't argue with that Niall, again a fair point. Pity he had to leave that time, and under contract, but who would turn it down if offered the same, no one.

If David Healy was to move on at the end of the season the maybe Sheilds would think about it. Healy is manager since 2015, not much more to achieve ,but Group stage football would have been a big thing which they missed out on. They are unlikley to get back into that position next summer as it doesn't look like they will win the league

He could walk and take the national job if offered it.

He'd probably be in contention for it. Michael O Neill would be the obvious candidate, and available. Neil Lennon in the frame also.

106k raised by Sligo supporters via their annual draw. We need to emulate this sort of thing next season.

We only lost six games all season And in those six . Drogs twice, RVs twice, ucd and pats are only teams to beat us.. We were beating both ucd and pats. if we had held on or beaten Drogheda we would be second. We still have a chance of second if RVs beat Derry 2-0 and we beat Derry 2-0. We also threw away win right at death v Shels in Tolka but got blessed with getting the three points in Sligo despite losing 3-0. Take note that rovers as Champions lost 5 league games. If we invest wisely in the close season the gap may well not be insurmountable next season.

I see report in Argus 25/10 that Dundalk FC finances are in a healthy state , mainly due to a write off loan of 1.7 million by Peak 6 , we made a profit of 905,863 in 21.

I have to say well done to O’Donnell and the club. I honestly thought 6th would be a decent position after last season and all that went on up to the start of this.

Although, it was also frustrating at time especially the second half of the season due to injuries, some performances, and choices the manager made. It does make me wonder what would have happened if we didn’t lose as many key players.

But 3rd is still just wow.

I was probably the most vocal on OW re my disappointment that we didn’t sign Connolly. I could always see the argument why we didn’t sign him but it was hard to watch our decline without him in the team.
I see he tweeted a congratulatory message to the team last night, fair play to him.
Whether there was actually a decision to be made or not ( as in the owners knew it was an open and shut case as to if we could afford him or not) , I don’t think we could have won the league with him due to all the injuries we had. So we still managed to qualify for Europe without him and we’ve saved a hell of a lot of money I suppose. The board got it right, but it could have been an awful lot easier! But they’re the lucky breaks you need to be successful!!

Bohemians and Sligo both sacked their managers during the season. Bohemians lost a lot of quality,. It wasn't a high standard league this season.
That's not to take away from getting Europe ,but the League is not as good as it was 10 or 15 years ago.

Shamrock Rovers top scorer in the League has 9 goals. Rory Gaffney. Jason Byrne, Glen Crowe, Dave Mooney, Gary Twigg were all getting around the 20 gaol mark from 2000 to 2010

So licences already issued for next season. Kerry will join the First Division. Backing up what someone else said about the closing date for applications being 30 September, Waterford; Galway; Longford; & Finn Harps are all awarded Premier Division Licences for 2023.

There was a structural issue with one of the stands at Treaty United, they would be doing well to get a licence.
