One of the things that has struck me is the number of familiar faces who are not back in Oriel, particularly in front of the stand. Have we lost so many good friends over the last 2 years?

Well there is one definite member of that front of stand terrace group sadly missing - Colm Crossan.

Oh I'd say Rovers game will hit 3,500 easily in two weeks time, they will take 400+ regardless plus its our only home game in March, which is madness as we have 3 in a row on Friday nights in April.

2,053 last night v UCD, was there even one UCD fan there, maybe family members in stand, but away terrace was empty.

Did the ticket scanners stop working last night? I find it hard to believe there was only 2k there.

It was said to me by someone that has worked the gates at oriel that the reason the club give such low attendance figures isn’t due to tax but the fire warden apparently!! Something to do with exits and ratio of people. But the club have always given lower numbers than the actual attendance for years now.
The natural balance of Irish football has returned for good.

The troube with making unsubstantiated claims like this is that some people on here are gullible enough to believe them. All attendance is controlled by ticket now so it's no longer possible to "fiddle" the numbers. I can't tell you what went on prior to the GM era, but I can assure you that numbers from then on were correct. In terms of last Friday night why would the club under declare numbers that are already way short of the ground cert capacity?

I think the only LOI club who has to pay VAT on gate money is Derry City.

As for UCD game, stand was only 3/4 full, seemed decent but lower crowd town end open seating, shed was 3/4 and not jammers, add to almost zero away fans, I actually guessed just over 2k before it was called out.

Sadly I am one of the absentees. I will still get to Oriel as often as I can but it is a long trip from Co Wexford - and for reasons stated elsewhere I will not (for personal safety reasons) be returning to the shed. I have free travel but the last bus out of Dundalk leaves just that little bit too early. Buses go from Dublin Airport to Wexford every hour throughout the night, so absolutely no problem there.
Anyway, oldfogey, maybe we will soon met in front of the stand and I can enjoy the benefits of your wit and wisdom (and vice versa)!

I think people are forgetting to factor in the very poor facilities in oriel particularly when the weather is poor like Friday I left the house it started to rain and asked myself do I really want to stand in an open field for two hours and returned home .

Another reason to raise the age old question, why doesn't the club just put a damn roof over the open seating town side of the stand, there are pubs that have better beer gardens, plus it seriously wouldn't cost that much?

All we hear is the away end is very poor, (it is) but this side of the ground is not too much better, albeit it has a better view.

Figures updated on first post, current average is 2,800 which is not really keeping in with most other clubs increase, another concern is the crowd reported for Shels game was around 100 less than Sligo, however Shels has 300-400 fans there v very little from Sligo, so the home support has dropped off a little of late.

Also some on a lot of platforms seem to be challenging the actual figures released by DFC, certainly for the Sligo game I thought it was closer to 3k, but they reported an actual figure.

You could look at it a different way and note that the average has remained relativelly consistent with 2016, despite difficulties experienced in the meantime. You might ask why were the other clubs so low to start off with?

We also have the problem of competing sports. GAA club fixtures and NEFL fixtures set for last Friday. Who decides to put a local derby between Bellurgan and MuirhevnaMor on at the same night as Dundalk v Shelbourne?
