Dundalk v Shelbourne | League Round 12 | Fri 22 April 2022 ko 19.45
Quite a tough game this and difficult to call. Shels beat Derry at the Brandywell, yet crashed 4-1 at home to Bohs yesterday.
I've not been keeping score but I imagine some of our players must be on 4/5 yellow cards. Mark Connolly picked up a very late one yesterday which - if his 5th - would rule him out of the UCD game on May 6th.
I'm not going to speculate about Benson/Williams fitness as the club play these things very close to their chest these days. No point in making it easy for the opposition ahead of kick-off. One would imagine O'Donnell will go with the following if the 2 lads are still out. The only question would be whether to start Keith Ward instead of Doyle or Adams. Although he was running yesterday, there is no sign of John Mountney being ready for a place on the bench. One would imgaine that - all things being equal - he is still at least month away from being able to start.

Only entertainment was seeing that whinging prick Duff getting sent off.. his firing of the water bottle afterwards was the only shot on target in the half.

Horrible game of football with horrible refereeing. Our passing was very poor throughout. Would love to see Sloggett and Doyle's pass competition percentage for the first half as they seemed to give away so much possession.
We're badly badly missing Benson and Williams in the center of midfield

no pictures on the league table , have to be happy with the 3 points , another draw would have been the start of a clamour . Onwards , while the league is tight - have to be happy with table position, very comforting ...

Hard to believe that professional players could deliver such a low standard of football.
Keith ward the only player from both sides capable of passing a football in a forward direction.
How Doyle gets a game is hard to see, Sloggett being played out of position, macari absolutely desperate on the ball, Adams beyond woeful.
Dreadful stuff. And somehow we're 4th. Bring on the summer transfer window. Quality needed

The only positive thing about the game was the reaction of the players to having a man sent off and giving away an equaliser. I thought the players responded well to both setbacks. However, the quality was pretty poor. Adams was awful and Dickey wasn't much better, despite getting a goal. Doyle was at least showing for the ball but no one was making any runs, so he ended up passing backwards a lot. Wardy turned the game in our favour.
Horrible Shels side, dirty and cynical.

Mark Connolly is the signing of the season. What a player and leader. Easy to see how he carved out a 10 year+ professional career in Scotland. Posing with kids for photos at the end too.

I thought it was a terrible game of football ,,the passing is horrendous, not just last nite either .
But the last 10 mins made up for it .good result .
Ps is it normal for a stadium announcer too call out birthday requests when the game is on .😂

The passing game was the same v Rovers , abysmal. They would have watched the video & be well aware of how poor it was . What happen to “ Give & Go” , that is coached from schoolboy level . We miss Benson & Mountenay in the engine room . We will defo. take 3 points from Shels , who had a great away record . Onwards & upwards & work on the passing game ( Non Stop on the training ground).

The passing is either sideways or backwards. Yes I get it, it is better to be in possession than to not be in possession, but surely it is better to drive forward than get into the shels half, only to go back into our own half with the next pass. What we are really lacking is a Michael Duffy type. Someone who will drive down the wing and create.. when we did it with wardy we scored the winner. What a cross , what a header.

Shite game last night but very important 3 points. The whole game was a non event till their sending off. I didn't see us getting a winner after their penalty to be honest but I was delighted to be proven wrong.
