Dundalk v Drogheda Utd | League Round 13 | Fri 29 April 2022 ko 19.45
A chance to right the wrong that was the game in Drogheda last month. Drogheda had fullback Evan Weir sent off in Sligo tonight so he will miss next Friday.
Good to see Paul Doyle finding a bit of form and Joe Adams seems suited to midfield as well. John Martin hasn't had a lot of game time but it looks like he will start on the wing. Hopefully John Mountney will get some game time.
With the top 4 playing each other there is a chance to leapfrog to third if games go to form.

DFC on twitter suggesting Bradley only has a one game ban for his red card. I thought straight red was 2 min.

Not an especially good performance. Luckily we were playing a poor Drogheda side who struggled on a full size pitch. We badly miss Benson, Bradley, and Williams. However, Wardy and Slogget played well.
Kelly and Adams still adding little to our play. However, three points are three points. We are up to third. There will be a lot more difficult games to come.

I actually thought that was one of our best performances with Wardy central to our best moves.
We need to play with a number 10 every week.

I would agree that I thought this was our best game all season and that we chased everything.dundalkfc1903 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 10:36 pm I actually thought that was one of our best performances with Wardy central to our best moves.

I thought we played a lot better than the previous few weeks. We dominated a poor drogheda side and could have done a lot more damage with a quality winger, for me the down side was the referee, shocking performance that let numerous hand balls go and sloggett could have got his leg broken but got nothing. 3rd place happy days.

Agree with you. For me Ward was MOTM.dundalkfc1903 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 10:36 pm I actually thought that was one of our best performances with Wardy central to our best moves.

Drogheda's goal should never have happened. I hate that passing in front of our goal. I don't know whose fault it is, but it's definitely a self inflicted injury.
I see the fools with the flares are back in action.

Doyle MOTM for me, he's coming along nicely, very busy breaking play up and played forward a lot more tonight, can't see Williams getting back in if he keeps playing like that.
Poor enough first half but we were the better side. Thought we were very good second half, best we've played. Drogs are poor but we opened them up constantly in the second half which was encouraging.
As for the fools with the flares and smoke bombs. The stewards were identifying some so maybe there'll be some action. If someone stood there with a camera on them it might work. I'd use a high power hose but might be slightly illegal..

First half was another terrible performance, second half we played the frogs off the pitch. Should have scored alot more, wardy in particular. Seem go have found our creative spark too with ward, he's been central to alot of good play. Hartland at fault for their goal. Terrible ball across the front of the box.

It was a very comfortable game. Thought Drogheda would come out with all guns blazing in the second half and we would sit back and try and catch them on the break but O'Donnell got his tactics spot on we turned the screw and got our rewards. Another couple of goals wouldn't have flattered us.
Although harsh on a left back that scores two goals, Doyle was my man of the match. He seemed to be everywhere both breaking up play and starting attacks. Wardy was excellent also but everyone had a solid enough game. Hopefully Martin showing strikers instinct with a good touch and finish will move him up the pecking order to number two striker and offer some competition to Hoban. I sure I'll think our squad and bench is a little light. Benson, Williams and Mountney coming back will help but we could do with some more attack minded players. Whelan and Kerrigan from UCD would be a good fit unless SOD fancies going back out to the UK again

For me, the signing of the season so far has been Shepard, all the other signings have done well but I don’t think he has put a foot wrong all season and makes at least one top class save every game. Well done young man

100% spot on, and we should be negotiating a new contract with him immediately. RVs will need to replace Mannus sooner than later and could be sniffing. Get him tied down long term.Midfield11 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 12:03 pm For me, the signing of the season so far has been Shepard, all the other signings have done well but I don’t think he has put a foot wrong all season and makes at least one top class save every game. I don't know how you could view that as anything other than a really competent and encouraging performance. The loose pass by Garts for their goal and Wardy missing the sitter were the only blemishes on what was a really enjoyable game.
The young lads are very likeable and seem to be having a great time so far.
