It would appear that Dublin City Council would not look unfavourably on the idea of throwing money at the redevelopment of Inchicore either. Unfortunately we seem to be in the wrong county.

Agree Old Fogey . I’m based in Dublin , so at least I can look forward to Away games . In the meantime Louth Co. Co. stuck in a time warp. Richmond has to be sorted as well.,It’s hard to believe the condition of the soccer grounds in Ireland. It’s 2022 & when you think of the facilities, toilets , etc . etc . it beggars belief . The gates would be quadrupled if there were proper facilities, with covered stands , where do you start . I think it said d it all , a team from Iceland , returned to hotel to change . We were in a queue for one toilet on so called reserved side that night . What an insult.

While I agree wholeheartedly about the state of the grounds, there is no guarantee that there will be a significant increase in numbers through the turnstiles. With the exception of Sligo - where there is little other entertainment - we are probably one of the best as a percentage of the population. I want a new 6,000 seated stadium as much as the next person, but it will surely bring increased prices which will ultimately have a negative effect on our existing core support.

DCC will have to produced a lot of funds for 3 stadiums. Tolka Park was supposed to be sold to fund the development of Dalymount as groundshare with Shelbourne.

But would be good for the League if those clubs get modern stadiums. Total cost of the Dalymount development is over 30 million, its excessive for a 6k capacity

You could knock off anywhere between €6 & €10M for the ancillary (community) facilities being developed. Nevertheless, €20M + for 6,000 seats where the land is free is still a hefty sum. Makes if difficult to see how any club could make a stadium pay unless they got a big wedge (free gratis) from a third party.

A decent artist look at the new Dalymount. The community facilities would add a good lump to the cost. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jat-JyelQwg

LCC is split down the middle, Dundalk v Drawda, GAA v Soccer, all splits keep vetoing one and others plans unfortunately, so as not to give the opposite the upper hand.

Almost tiresome saying it at this stage, if the club for whatever reasons cannot / will not / not in a position to make big improvements, surely these bits can be considered, even over a few seasons, would at least drag the old girl into PD standard.

1/ L Shape roof on town side of stand terrace.

2/ 'St Pats' style semi-perm open seating town end, even with no roof.

3/ Bulldoze away end, use the space for offices / extension to lilywhite / anything really.

4/ Re-locate away fans to behind goal, build a smaller semi - perm structure similar to what Markets Field has, that would be ideal, plus there would be plenty of room there for tv trucks and cars to pass still.

Then the elephant in the room the pitch !! But............give me this any day over the rubbish grass ones we have seen, but medium term would love to see a return to grass, would help player loans from bigger Uk clubs for a start if that is the route we want to go down.

I see that land adjacent Dundalk stadium is back up for sale, site of the proposed ski slope. 800k , zoned recreational, 24 acres

I can't find the report of the planning refusal but I remember that one of the reasons was fear of the development becoming too car dependent (or words to that effect). I think the biggest problem with the site would be the fact that racing is often held on the same night that Dundalk are playing at home.

Wasn't aware of that but Im sure I remember some very strong objections on environmental grounds , being an important flood plain and wetland area.

That is definitely a major factor. Someone has imported hundreds - if not thousands - of tonnes of soil into the plot of land opposite the racecourse over the last number of years.

Lads there is more chance of our beloved club playing in the CL group stages next season (and we are not in Europe, I know) than there is of a new ground being built within the next 5-8 years. I highly doubt we will see major improvements to Oriel within the next 3 years, that is unless some mad fan wins the Euromillions.
3 things that go against the club:
  • Local politians have very seldom if ever lobbied for DFC to get more than a pat on the back
  • Part of our current ownership walked away last time round as they couldnt take the club further
  • For all the current and past TDs, senators etc. that claim to support the club, how many have ever pushed hard for a ground? Louth GAA played a blinder making a TD their chairman

If we are waiting on the council we have no chance, how many organisations have they given the old town dump too knowing full well it can’t be used. The council has no vision when it comes to developing sport(unless it’s GAA). We need that lotto win.
