Agree with your comment on Towell. I think we got the best years from Finn and Hoare too.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 9:52 pm Great result. Thought Daniel Kelly was magic... Defence very assured. Thought Leahy and macari played their best matches for us. And what a ball from Lewis for the goal. Rovers I felt were bang average. Hope they enjoy their outlay on Towell.. we dodged a massive bullet there.

Ah, the fools with the flares once again. What was thrown onto the pitch? I assume the club will be in trouble over that - fines, maybe?

Towell form hadn't been good in England and that was in League 2. There was a lot expected of him because of what he done 7 years ago. He had a lot of injuries and didn't score many goals in England ,so the the big hype over him returning was ott
He looks too bulked up and lost a yard of pace

He still has two more seasons on his contract at €3k a week. We majorly dodged a bullet there as we were going to match it. Ganno also has two years left I believe. Hopefully those long contracts for underperforming players removes a little competition when we're trying to sign playersRichie87 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 12:00 pm Towell form hadn't been good in England and that was in League 2. Towell was always a super dynamic player... but that doesn't normally age well. I hate it that he is in Sc*m jersey , but we are very lucky not to have his massive contract.
Rovers signed him, Gannon, McCann all to big long contracts. Very silly policy. Hopefully, we can make it pay for them.

The bazunu tf had given them a lot of additional funds to sign players as will their euro money.Louth4sam wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 1:03 pmHe still has two more seasons on his contract at €3k a week. It made no sense Rovers signing him. They have quite a few players over 30 as it is. Gaffney, Lopes, Mannus,Finn,Grace, Gannon, McCann
They could have signed Will Patching with that money and made money on him

Least with towell the hype was valid. Don't see the hype surrounding Patching myself. Didn't put any effort in whilst here, and how many 60-40 tackles did he pull out of?

What hype? Towell hadn't played in the league since 2015, and had been plagued with injurues in England. He was a goal scoring midfielder arriving into the box at Dundalk. He only scored a handful of goals in 6 years in England
Patching showed at Derry he was really good. He's been geting more stuck in playing for them

We dodged a bullet with towell but I would rather him over Patching, even now.Richie87 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 3:10 pm What hype? Is it though or will it go to service debts. They seem to be losing a fortune and had to sell off half the club to clear debts. Dermot Desmond had to put 2M in last year also as they lost so much and they were in Europe last seasonniall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 3:02 pmThe bazunu tf had given them a lot of additional funds to sign players as will their euro money.Louth4sam wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 1:03 pmHe still has two more seasons on his contract at €3k a week. I don't think they were just using the money to sign players. They used the initial fee from Bazunu to upgrade the Academy facilities at Roadstone. They had been making a loss, but this sell on clause will likely cover any loss and probaly a turnover.
Liam Scales last year to Celtic was a 500 k fee. If they keep producing a good level of player from their Academy they will be able to ask for good money.

Not every transfer works out. All clubs sign poorly, none worse than us last year, by the way.
Most people would take Rovers problems. Back to back champions (kind off), playing in a proper stadium, decent crowds, transfer cash being earned, etc.
Their biggest failing is how poorly they play and how little (if any) they have progressed with all that investment.

Great night and brilliant 3 points, Rovers were absolutely dreadful but still we done what was needed, never seen a Rovers team time-wasting from literally the first minute. Lucky we dodged Towell he's a shadow of the player we had here.
Great performances all round but thought the midfield really stood up where we might have been expected to be second best. Sloggett was everywhere and Paul Doyle is really finding his feet after a slow start. You can see the confidence starting to grow in him.
BTW bring back the Quo and 'Rockin over the world', can't beat buzzing off that after a big win 😄
