St Patrick's Ath v Dundalk | League Round 24 | Fri 15 July 2022 ko 19.45

Post by oldfogey » Mon Jul 11, 2022 11:47 am

Someone made a valid point on another thread about posters having been driven away by a couple of keyboard neanderthals. I also think that there has been a general move to other forms of social media. I have to say that - Friday's result notwithstanding - the lack of contributory posts on Orielweb does give rise to questions about it's continued existence/usefulness. Even the usual 40+ guests (journos, podcasts, and blogs) who use the site as a source of information have been whittled down to 2. Personally, I will revisit the subject of continued involvement following the 3 home games against Finn Harps, Longford, and Derry.

I think the recent change in mods and Colin leaving the forum showed that there are plenty of people who want OW to continue and find it a very useful source of information and debate.
Things are always quiet on OW when the team is doing reasonably well . If we were playing badly all season and SOD was getting it wrong, there’d be plenty of activity on here I can guarantee.
Also, it seems to me that there is absolutely no info floating around OP regarding new signings or keeping existing players etc. so there’s very little to debate at the moment, unlike previous years

Big game here. Poor results in our past couple of away games but I'd imagine this game will be a lot more open than against Shels or Drogheda. Hopefully Hoban and Bradley are fit to start as they are two major attacking threats. This would be the side I would start with if all players are fit.

This is a make or break game for this team. The lads seriously have to find some away form and where better to do it ..... Hopefully they can pick their game up for SOD. Would like to see Bone come in to partner Connolly ....

As for the forum .... have to agree, if we were playing badly we would have 100 new posts per day.

Agree with both posts above , yes I’m worried about this one. We’d built up a good lead over pats but if they win on Fri, that’s down to 3 points .
We’ve won 1 game on grass away from home all season…

I think it could be another 0-0 tomorrow. We've struggled to score goals but I'd like to think we'll be solid at the back too. Setting up to not lose wouldn't be a bad call considering a draw keeps the 6 point gap between us.

I think we need to be less fearful with taking shots. We try to walk the ball into the box and usually end up getting shut down quickly. More shots from outside the box, and more crossing please.

Or else Bone is playing instead of Doyle who is on the bench. Bradley and Adams both on the bench so assume Ward will play on the wing. Club have listed team numerically, so not giving anything away. This is James Rogers' take.

14 Peter Cherrie
2 Lewis Macari
5 Mark Connolly
4 Andy Boyle
15 Darragh Leahy
10 Greg Sloggett
6 Sam Bone
7 Daniel Kelly
17 Keith Ward
8 Robbie Benson
9 Patrick Hoban

Subs
Dundalk subs tonight:

30 Mark Byrne
16 Steven Bradley
20 Joe Adams
21 Paul Doyle
23 John Mountney
25 Mark Hanratty
28 Ryan O’Kane
29 David McMillan

Nathan Sheppard is a huge huge loss. Hopefully it isn't a serious injury and he is back as as soon as possible. Peter Cherrie is an able replacement but his last real game time was last November.

Not a clue what the tactics or shape was in that game. The management can take the majority of the blame for that poor performance. As for Kelly’s miss, holy god.

Chris Forrester was probaly the best player on the pitch. Some of his control is different level stuff.

Boyle needs dropping and quick. Kellys miss is unforgiving.

Agree with both of those statements. Both could do with a few weeks in the stand and a good kick up the hole. Tonight once again proved we are very much work in progress, from the manager to the squad.

Brutal game and performance yet again away from home. Our away record is poor, 2 wins from 12 (with 7 draws admittedly). Not sure how we were so loose at the back with 2 defensive midfielders. Ward, Benson, Kelly all not at the races. Great to see Hoban back, even if he was far from his best. Pats were woeful for the most part, running the clock down from early in the first half they got what they deserved.
