Re: St Patrick's Ath v Dundalk | League Round 24 | Fri 15 July 2022 ko 19.45
3 weeks ago we were beginning to dream about overtaking Rovers. If Derry beat Finn Harps on Sun, they will take 2nd place having played the same no.of games.. Giving our recent form, the fact they have no Euro distractions and have Duffy back it will be hard for us to regain it. Still I'd have settled for 3rd place in Feb.
One thing I am disappointed about is not playing Ryan O Kane a bit more. Seems to have done well in the bits that he played and might give us the spark we need during matches.

Once again we are a much lesser team when Doyle is not in the side. Bone was poor on the ball, slow, and cumbersome. Combining that with Benson played out wide gave Pats control over central midfield. Boyle's pace is gone and he was very lucky not to have given away a penalty.
The pluses were the performance of Cherrie and the ability of the team to stay in the game and pick up a point.
No one here was getting carried away when we beat Shamrock Rovers. We are a building a side and there will be inconsistency.
The treatment of O'Donnell by the referee was shameful.

23 fouls by Pats incidentally, I haven't seen such consistent tactical fouling since the Arsenal game. The wee left back had 5 fouls in the first half alone

Ref was terrible. Countless tackless from Pats went unpunished. Thought he was equally bad for both sides to be fair. Should have been a peno for each team too.

I thought the ref did ok, he tried to let the game flow, most LOI refs seem to get paid by the amount of frees they award plus he rightly spotted foresters dive for a penalty. Not sure why he sent O’Donnell off so can’t comment on that. Does anyone know the reason macari was taken off and sloggett put at right back? If macari wasn’t injured it’s one of the strangest moves I have seen, I thought macari was one of our better players

Can anybody tell me: In the last two games how many shots on goal did we have?

2nd yellow for leaving the technical area to throw the ball back to one of our lads to get it back in play with time running out.Midfield11 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 7:43 amI thought the ref did ok, he rightly spotted foresters dive for a penalty. Technically a yellow card offence but very petty in my opinion. Couldn't wait to get it out of his pocket.

would Bone/Connolly be a better option in defence .

Possibly. Boyle was absolutely done for pace at least 4 times when he should have easily dealt with situation. He's not been at the races at all the last while.Alanek wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 11:45 amVery strange ,,did the same against drogheda .Wexford White wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 9:15 am Can anybody tell me: In the last two games how many shots on goal did we have?

How he got away with that penalty is still beyond me. It was straight in front of that baldy linesman who to be fair was terrible all night.

We don't know if anything was said but it was a very harsh second yellow to give O'Donnell. It was for retrieving the ball for God's sake. Second sending off for a manager I imagine would be a lengthy ban?

The second yellow was beyond petty. If yellows are given everytime a coach leaves the technical area, very few games would end without both managers being sent off. There seems to be an agenda against O'Donnell in the league.

I would have given it but clear hand ball the other end waved away cancelled it out.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 12:18 pmWould have been a very soft pen imhoMcNultys Discopants wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 11:52 amPossibly.
