Dundalk v Derry City | League Round 26 | Fri 5 August 2022 ko 19.45

Big 3 weeks ahead with Derry(H), Bohs(A), and Rovers (A) to come, although the Tallaght game - in the middle of two 4th round playoff legs - is likely to get kicked down the road.

My only hope for Friday's game is that it is about us, and not any former players. If we play to our abilities and strengths we should get at least a point, although I believe the game will have a result either way

I think we could have a siege mentality us against them. They took 5 players from us now since last season. Think it could be a hostile atmosphere and could work in our favour. They have had injury problems but they haven't looked like a team we should fear .. get at them and a win is there for us.

Derry aren’t the team all their spending would suggest, as Niall said if we go at them and keep it tight in the first 20 we should be well able to get a result. Midfield will be a good battle and we have a very good bench that can come on and change a game. I’ll go for an entertaining 2-1 win.

Yea but they are starting to pick points up again and they’ll be right up for this one. Higgins’ team talk is easy, “ Be the first to break their home record”

Midfield.. patching is a coward. Loses most 50-50 challenges. Target him and he will crumble.

Derry will push high on Bone and try to corner him. It might be a game for Martin, alongside Hoban. It gives us an option to go long. It worked against Rovers earlier in the season.

This realistically is the defining moment of our league season. Win and we open up a Five point gap. Lose and Derry go one clear with a game in hand and it kills our title challenge dead in the water and allows pats to close the gap.. Journalists may think the title race is over, but if RVs see the tie out next week it guarantees them group stages which will derail them. I don't think their squad is strong enough especially up top to lead an assault on three fronts. A draw tonight would suit RVs, a win for us really could see us shut the door on pats. Hopefully a huge crowd in oriel and get behind the team and let's get into them from the start. Hopefully none of our ex players get any abuse, well apart from patching. The rest including Connolly don't deserve any at all.

Potentially a cracking game tonight with two teams that play open expansive football. Derry's style of play suits us more than teams in the lower half of the table that sit back and counter attack. I think we can win tonight if we play to our best. Would agree with White Horse that I would go two up top as we would have Hoban holding up and the two wingers and Martin playing off him which I think could work.

Lads Derry City fan here looking forward to the game this evening and two very good teams having a go. Is there anywhere close to Oriel where few of us could have a few pints?

Kennedy's is a great spot not far from the ground, across the road from the train station

Too early for a pre match drink or 10? Got a bad feeling about this one ..... could end up sitting at home under the table with a six pack ... telling herself to speak to me when it is over and we have won.

I had a bad feeling about the opening game of the season along with our visit to the brandywell and rovers at home. That being said, in the words of Johnny Tightlips "I ain't sayin' nothin".

What a bluffer Higgins is. A budget like no other and they come to Oriel and put more effort into time wasting than actually trying to play football.

What a goal from hoban. Where was connolly for that cross ;)
