Well boys , I preached for years about a new stadium , it came to nothing . I don’t bother any more . It all just fell on deaf ears , & that is when we were winning millions in Europe . I said at the time it was an indictment on Louth Co. Council , politicians from Dundalk ( who were Ministers in Government at the time ) the FAI , the owners , the people of Dundalk & Co. Louth , No Pride , No Vision , No interest etc. etc. Committees were formed & did nothing . A good start would be several bulldozers & flatten the whole ground .
The first step , would be form a Committee & call it the Bulldozer Committee , & take it from there.

I was in the sponsor lounge for the UCD, managed to wrangle a pass, there are giant 10ft weeds growing from behind the away end, and visible from the pitch, it really wouldnt take much to cut these. An overall clean up around the ground, generally weekly clean up should be in operation. I`m not sure it is other than a quick clean pre match.

We won't be getting a new ground, as LCC are not going to come onboard for a variety of reasons, least not they don't have the funds, so it will fall back to the club to raise the money, and where is that going to come from?

On fixes to get the group up to PD standard, the following are long standing requirements, but again no idea on cost:

1/ L Shape roof on the home end open terracing stand side.

2/ Demolish away end, and use area as an extension for Liylwhite or offices, if LW, could even look to get a revenue out of it, take away dinners on a sunday (plenty of car parking) or go for bigger rentals for companies / 21st etc.

3/ Build a Finn Harps style terrace behind Carrick Road goal (seems a strange comparison given they are moving) but anyway plenty of space still behind for cars.

4/ Town end goal, put up what St Pats have, Temp Perm open seating, it will do for 2 rounds in europe.

5/ Install more toilets around the ground, and better lighting for darker months.

6/ Floodlights, might need looked at some stage, as not sure they will be powerful enough for even 2nd round in europe, not sure.


All of these items would bring the ground up to PD proper standard and yet we haven't even mentioned the pitch !

Does anybody seriously think that renaming the dump that is Oriel Park is a fitting tribute to Des Casey?
Make it fit for purpose and then re name it - permanently.

Not related to ground improvements and not Dundalk related, but shows you what we are missing a trick with re college link ups.. and the fact there never really a seems to be a pathway for any young player into the first team and beyond. Also reaffirms that out of all the players we lost from our great sides, the one player we never replaced was Ronan Finn.

He was a great number 8. A few years since he played in that position with Rovers regularly, playing a lot at wingback now as ,they have many options central. Centre was where he was best.

That is just depressing to read Richie, 'soccer' must be well down on the menu in Mayo, and a junior clubs gets almost similar for any club in Europe making the Uefa Conference Group stage.

It’s more than pathetic, people on here talking about weed killer , Stephen Kenny brought us to the pinnacle & that was the time to engage the bulldozers . There was guys on at that time talking about puddles . For fk sake. The GAA are getting it done , no problem & fair play . Just looking at Tallaght Stadium , it looks fantastic . At the end of the day , we have to have the ambition to have a proper facility for the Community & Dundalk FC .

For me that is equally amazing and shocking . Fair play to this club, but how in the name of God can we not apply and get this grant ??

Lads for monies to be approved 2-3 things need to happen. The club need to want it, the council need to want it and more importantly, local TDs & Senators need to want it and all have to lobby for it. At this moment in time, it looks like one from those 3 may be half interested, but publicly, it looks like none are interested. Fans seriously have to start lobbying on the ground regardless of if the club wants it or not. If you meet a councillor, a TD, a Senator or indeed our owners / management .... place the question ... when is Oriel going to get grants to rebuild? Only if they see there is public interest will they do something, otherwise our local independent TD will continue to suck up all funding for the GAA.

Yea he told me he’d help the club and it was a priority for him when he canvassed me at the last election. I gave him a vote down the list. I won’t be doing it again.
Ruairì O M is at every home game these days but doesn’t look like he’s done too much either!

Unfortunately lads, whilst the priority for some of our local politicians is rainbow coloured pedestrian crossings Oriel will be way down the list. What was all that guff about? Lol!
