Re: Ground improvements
Peter Fitzpatrick resigned as Louth chairman yesterday https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic ... 75922.html
Seems coverage of the issue pointing to major issues with the planned stadium to the point Croke Park stepped in and told them not to proceed with the launch due to happen today. Much as its not great from a GAA fans point of view this could be a blessing in disguise if the issues are enough to prevent this whole project going ahead and send it back to the drawing board. Felt like a groundshare was a missed opportunity originally but Louth County Board might have no choice but to look at other options now

Re: Ground improvements
It seems to be Croke Park are not convinced Louth have enough funds for it. They don't want to be bailing out Louth like they did with Pairc UI Chaoimh which was 25m over budget.

Re: Ground improvements
Stadium in Louth you say? So would you be prepared to share with Drogheda and the GAA in somewhere like Dunleer or Ardee? That is the death knell to both Dundalk FC and Drogheda United imho

Drogheda have potential new owners who plan to redevelop the ground
They also own Walshall https://www.saddlers.co.uk/news/2022/de ... t-stadium/

Re: Ground improvements
Finn Harps new stadium costing 8million seems a decent figure compared to other grounds being developed.

Re: Ground improvements
I don't agree that we shouldn't leave Oriel. It wasn't always our home we played in the athletic grounds prior to Oriel. But we shouldn't move outside of Dundalk.Johnnybegood33 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 9:05 pm I know what you mean Niall , we should never leave Oriel , thats a given . Re: Ground improvements
Wonder how much it was scaled back? €8 Million could go a long way in Oriel as the Main stand and shed could be left until last. I still wouldn't be opposed to moving to a greenfield site if it would allow better potential for growth and improved facilities.Richie87 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 9:50 pm Finn Harps new stadium costing 8million seems a decent figure compared to other grounds being developed.

Re: Ground improvements
Have the bulbs in the mainstand been replaced? Always thought one or two of them were out with the rest faded, they all looked brand new. Noticed them standing shedside, could well have been a UEFA pre-requirement.

Re: Ground improvements
In 2022, Dundalk FC formed a Development Group to examine all options and seek expert advice on the future of Oriel Park.
Since then, the Development Group, which consists of Simon Blackmore, Stephen Neary, Martin Connolly, Colm Murphy, Bernard Freeman and Gerry King, has held multiple meetings with local and national representatives, the FAI, and potential partners to put forward a pathway to ensure that Oriel Park is capable of meeting the demands of our senior and academy teams.
Below is an update from the Development Group on its progress to date. Please note that the images used are artistic impressions by AllSport Spectator Facilities Ltd and not actual designs.

Hopefully something really positive comes from this, and great to see funding applications have been made to Sports Capital Funds Grant last moth.
