The national organisation is responsible for putting forward the various teams for each competition. The FAI (probably JD) promised Waterford they would be fine but then didn't propose them. Obviously there were background discussions with UEFA who made plain that their situation wouldn't pass muster but it would appear this wasn't communicated to club. I was working in the office the year Derry & Cork were bypassed and we made Europe from 6th. We received hints early on that we might be entered and were already working on the process before it was announced.
Is right, apologies. Forgot about the circus around that, JD had said UEFA would give them a derogation but never came through

The link below takes you to Bert Kassies Bible of all things Euro. The Cup Winner (CW) slot is clearly different to finishing position in the league (N2/N3). If Rovers do the double and the FAI propose Derry as CW then it just becomes a case of changing the rules each year to suit the narrative.

It's always N2 that takes the CW slot if one club wins the double (in countries with only 1 team in the CL). Its in the UEFA rules, it's not up to the national association., they can't just propose a club as CW. I know the FAI have to put clubs forward, but they;d have to have a damn good reason not to follow the rules
Thankfully the only real threat to us qualifying for Europe is slipping to fourth with Bohs/Shels winning the cup. Waterford/Treaty/UCD won't win the cup. Bohs play Shels in the quarters so one of them is gone before the semis. We still have to be short odds on for Europe, which would be a fantastic result

I hope so Sean, as it would be an actual disaster not to make it after the efforts so far this season, plus the coefficient ranking will def have us seeded in two rounds. If we make it and get stronger squad, abs no reason we can't be looking to play in 3 rounds, that will be around €700-850k gross in prizemoney.

Now that will be a superb recovery and will see us slowly get back into position.

They wil Pat Hoban back sooner then later if they want to maintain top 3. The miss by John Martin in the first half against Shels was evident of that.

Derry have been without Michael Duffy for the bulk of the season, a lot of those games they dropped points in he could have been the difference.
