They could make it a Level 3 6k stadium, like what Sligo are planning with the showgrounds and have some European ties. Obviously still requires a huge amount of funding but more realistic then a 8k stadium

I'd like to see us build something piecemeal. That's what should have been done when we started earning from Europe even if it takes several years.

Unless Dundalk get some plans in place it will be a long time before anything happens. The goverment through the Minister for Sport are focusing on the new Finn Harps stadium, Dalymount and the Showgrounds over the next 3 years with funding in place.

The likes of Tolka Park and Richmond Park will be probaly be other projects in the future. The Goverment won't support all Clubs at once as they have to cover all Sports, so having some ideas of a new ground and Community amenities would be a help.

Isn't that the best reason to get things started? This isn't going to happen quickly

Absolutely. Longford Towns promotion in 2000 was seen as the catalyst for getting a new ground. Dundalk stood still in 2016, but better late then never to do something.

We should focus on getting the ground up to LOI PD standard which it barely meets, there are so many things that could be done next 2 years.

I might be in minority, but get basics right like covering more of the seats, build a semi perm stand behind town goal, maybe a terrace carrick road goal for away fans, more toilets, if that means its not up to euro 2 or 3 rounds so be it, we will have to go to Tallaght etc for bigger euro games.

But folks, what we have on offer is poor, we all know it, all it takes is a rainy night in colder months and its plain and simple, gradual improvements is the way to go.

Last nite was our first game in a few weeks,we are pushing for European football ,local derby ,and less than 3000 showed up ,
Only way we would need an 8000 seater stadium is if we get a couple of pre season games against United or Liverpool ,then the whole town would be out force .
Apart from that no need for it

I do not agree. Now I love Oriel as much as the next man, some really happy memories going back as far as 1963 but it is a dump now. I think that a lot of families who love football do not go because of the state of the place. I think we would easily get 5 to 6000 with modern state of the art facilities. The additional capacity would easily be snapped up on Euro nights and we may even be able to attract under 21 international games as well as league cup finals etc. It is amazing the lift the club would get with a new stadium. Also there would be revenue opportunities for Music gigs etc. We are one of the biggest clubs in Ireland, serial winners with a very proud history and we play in that shit hole. I rest my case.

Would fans be willing to PayPal €5-10 more per game to have improved facilities?
How much more would fans be willing to pay per season to assist the dream become reality?

I think you'd be surprised at how good fans might be if there were definite plans and you look at the model used currently, 1/3rd fundraising, 1/3rd government grant and 1/3rd club finances. But there would need to be a concrete proposal before you asked anyone to dip into their own pockets, otherwise they're just throwing money at the club with no guarantee it'd be used for facilities. On the topic of stadium, i dont actually think it could be redeveloped and I'd prefer a move to a new stadium once it was based in town. For all the work needs doing to oriel and all the redtape that would come with it I think you'd be as well going for a greenfield site. I know there is a couple of landbanks in town that might be suitable. You're realistically looking at ten years from plans starting to a sod being turned. I wish people would knock heads together and just get on with drafting up options rather than just sitting going around in circles like we do every year. Hope this finally leads to action from new owners

I think there would need to be a few price tiers depending on location of the seat but I would have no problem with a slight price raise and can't see too many fans having an issue either. The key is not to raise it to a level that would stop us attracting new fans.

Yep good point , even worse take away Drogs fans (300) and it was around 2k home fans. We are missing at least 500 from the SK days, but at the same time facilities have to be a factor, its just not attractive on a cold night, worse when wet, we need the classic American term 'soccer mom' factor, thats when the families all go, proper seats, cover, toilets, lights, food, drinks, parking etc, we fail on most of that.

Much as I hate the tenants, Tallaght is the benchmark in terms of standard of facilities, and pricing. All of it is covered and is - in effect - the same price at €20. You are hardly going to convince current stand supporters here to pay more than the Shed supporters in something that is identical on the other side of the pitch. The return from your proposed increase will really only apply to those paying €15 at the gate, as you are hardly going to add €5 to the Student/OAP or Child ticket. The only revenue increase worth talking about will come from extra bodies, not price hikes.

Let's call a spade a spade here. The reason they aren't coming is because we aren't challenging for the title. That's the bottom line. Fickle fans who pick and choose a winning team.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.

I am sure that a few mums with soccer mad kids would bring them if they had somewhere to sit in the dry and somewhere clean to go to the toilet with the ability to get the kids a snack etc. Yes, our form has dropped off but it is still far better than the last two seasons and if you had told me in January we would be third with 5 games left after the shenanigans of the last couple of years I would have suggested you get certified. As a football club over many years we have won many things, we are known in Europe and we have never built on that legacy with decent facilities. Any hope of a new stadium or upgraded Oriel should be roundly applauded. I live in England but I still buy season pass for the ould fella and watch streams as well as attend games whenever I can and I would have no
Problem with paying higher prices for better facilities. Better facilities are attractive to better players when deciding between clubs. I remember when West Ham were moving from Upton Park to the Olympic stadium, people said they won’t fill it. They had a 35,000 capacity but they now fill 60,000 stadium and have a waiting list for season passes. The facilities are a massive part in that.
