mike wrote: Wed Oct 26, 2022 8:34 pm I would think Cork will have a similar budget to Shels, do not see them top 6 even.

Defence - We need at least 3 defenders, have also changed my mind of Boyle, thats v good experience leaving if he goes, Shep has another year on his 1+1 deal, Leahy I'd keep, can't see Macari staying, Garltand in his last season, and I don't rate McCourt whom we paid a small fee for. Mountney has impressed at right full. Sam Bone, I'm really not sure, prob release but he has done much better in MF last few games.

MF - Lewis / Sloggett both under contract, almost sure Doyle is too, Adams I'd prob keep but he is on one year loan, Benson only does one year deals, prob keep him but christ he needs to stay fit. We need at least 2 more, Doyle was supposed to have added steel, didn't play near enough, Ward I`d keep.

Attack - Hoban and O'Kane (2024) and Kelly (2023 with poss 1 extra year option) - said on another thread if all keep fit, that is some pace and some front trio, Bradley - started brilliantly, got league POTM, faded badly, can't see him staying,

McMillan / Martin - I'd release both, so need two strikers

So that's 3 defenders, at least 2 MF and 2 more up front, big shopping list and we will have challenges, as we are clearly 3rd choice for players, getting to europe is essential, if we don't budget could be cut and quality incoming could be too.
Cork will have a big budget. They were getting 6k into the cross most weeks and will be hugely supported in the top flight next season. And Adams was signed I think. He isn't on a loan deal.
Cork City seeking new investment ,but had a guaranteed cash cushion to the club over the past few seasons that was never needed from Grovemoor . That's available for next season. The strong attendances over the past 2 years should help too

The lily-white bar accepting card payments would be a good thing for 2023.

All shops, bars and food outlets in Oriel should be accepting card payments and it's baffling that this isn't been pushed by owners of a technology company

I would imagine technology isn't the issue. A couple of other potential reasons spring to mind:

- card fraud
- preventing irresponsible card use

Have to be honest and say the cynic in me would have other reasons ahead of those two..

Neither of those two are issues for the 99% of businesses that accept cards.

Well said. I suspect it is the same reason the official gates are low too .... would be some craic if they introduced the same system as in 90% of Dutch and German grounds .... pre-paid stadium card payments only. You top up your club (stadium) card via the website or at terminal point in the ground and can only pay with it on match day for food and drinks. Card costs approx. €5-10 deposit and whatever you don't spend at the end of the season ... well it stays with the club.

I was at a bundesliga game in Munich just pre covid and I was able to pay on my own debit card. Pretty sure as is the case with the Aviva it was cashless only.

Then it has changed from my last visit, Schalke and BVB, both only accepted their own cards pre-covid. Remember adding up what our group alone left at BVB ... was €85+ between 4 lads, on top of that €20 deposit.

Just had a chat with a workmate who would be a season ticket holder in Germany. He has confirmed most clubs are no cashless with the options ... club cards, bank/credit cards, google pay, Paypal .... basically they take anything but cash. Have to see that I get over after Xmas for a few games, the wife will love me if I put the tickets under the Xmas tree for myself!

Well , we did clinch 3rd. & back in Europe . It’s get around the table time for Stevie & Co. & plan for the future . Stevie knows what is required & knows what it takes , with his massive experience in the League & in Europe .
The aim has to be to peg back Rovers & Derry .
Have to say on the strength of what Duff is doing at Shels , the smart money could be on them to beat Derry , should be a very attacking Cup Final .

Think we all got what we wished for this season. Back in Europe again for the 9th time in 10 seasons.

We still have a crack at second if RVs beat Derry 2-0 and we beat Derry 2-0 yes fantasy football stuff but it is possible. We go there with absolutely no fear
