I keep telling myself that there’ll be 3/4 more loan signings of decent quality brought in but I have to say that I’m getting quite nervous as the days tick by.
No professional club can play a season with a squad of 18 . We’d be lucky to fill a bench with our injury record from last season. We’re already down Mountney and McCourt and Kelly is not back to full fitness.
Maybe we’ll hear more tonight after the Wexford game. I’m sure SOD will be asked re signings. I hope he doesn’t start talking about bringing players in the Summer!
I’m only going on what he and Sean Connor said. SOD said that we need a few more additions and SC refuted much of what JR wrote and mentioned we only missed out on one target. If there’s something different and we’re in trouble financially and player wise, I just wish there’d come out and say it.
Anyway hopefully we’ll have a cleared picture over the next 24 hours

Our squad is 21 at the moment not 18 ..
2-3 more loan signings and maybe Todd in summer should be more than enough to get by barring another injury massacre halfway through the season .

Ah ok.
I presume that’s just 3 goalkeepers and no youths included in the 21?

Pepsi wrote: Tue Feb 07, 2023 8:12 am Anyone else worried about the fact that it is 10 days to the start of the season and we are still short of numbers and quality in our squad? If they sell Sheps ... I think we all know where this is going. I hope they wont/dont and prove people wrong.
I note that you have deliberately left your insinuation slightly ambiguous, and then making out it's "other" people. You're implying that the owners would take the money and run. Where have you been for the last 5 years? Everybody knows that release clauses are a standard demand from any player who has aspirations tto play overseas. They are even getting complicated now - as with Keena in Sligo - where the club only has to consider offers from clubs outside the LOI. The problem with untried players is that you don't know just how good they will turn out. Whats seems like a reasonable figure on day 1 has fans jumping up and down when the deed is eventually done. Even then, the player/agent will refuse to accept a higher valuation unless they get (a) a bigger signing on fee (b) higher wages. (c) a big cut of the transfer fee. The first 2 are dangerous as you are really just placing a bet on a horse that might not come in for a couple of years - if at all.
I wrote "Anyone else worried" which in simple English would suggest that I am worried and was asking others if they shared that worry. As for contracts, the club, player and agent know what is in them, however what you forgot is that Sheps is already playing overseas. He made it clear he wanted a second year with us and Europe seemed attractive, which is why I would be surprised if he asked to leave for a club outside Europe competition. Playing in Europe can only improve his situation and CV, also we should not forget, that he may get a better move in the main summer window as opposed to the winter window in the UK on the back of European performances.
I emphasised the IF for a reason .... should the club sell him without having a better or similar quality replacement on a permanent deal, then yes I think it would be a bad signal. It would be a field day for the press as Sheps, if we are honest, is probably the only asset we could hope to get biggish money for from the UK market being a Wales U21 keeper and having played at the good underage level.

SOD saying squad is almost done but hoping to get 2 more bodies in

I suppose if we compare it to last year’s recruitment there has been an incremental improvement. Last year we brought in loan players who hadn’t played senior football. This year we’ve signed players who have played ‘proper’ football. Still a small squad though unless we can get 2 more imo

I see the Pats signing Noah Lewis was Uk bound, but Brexit complications meant he signed for Pats. Might see more of this in future, as no longer straightforward to move to Uk from European leagues. https://t.co/19JBMbLCbf

Ronan Coughlan signs for Waterford.. Surly we could have used a player like him in our small injury prone squad?
On a separate issue, I heard over the weekend that O'Donnell and the owners are barely on speaking terms.
Apparently/Allegedly! StatSports had a long list of potential signings form the UK and O'Donnell blanked them all
because he wants to do everything "his way". Of course it's most likely bullshit, you know how stories start when things
are quiet. Anyone got any good news?

Not sure how that's going to work with Brian Gartland in place. A big deal was being made about him being involved in getting players in. Is he just rubber stamping? O'Donnell is taking an awful lot on himself if he wants to oversee everything. He did seem a bit stressed during the pre season games.

I would be fairly certain that this is completly made up as it doesn't even make any sense. It's not logical at all. No manager would turn down a list of potential signings, completly dismissing them?

Ronan Coughlan is pants, there was also talk that he was a bit of a bad actor in the dressing room.

Don't know if it's true but really hope it isn't.
O'Donnell is the manager, he picks the players and the team.
Delete Statsports from the above and replace with Bill Hulsizer.
We've been here before.
