I wonder why the 3 loans were so late in the window. The English players will be fit enough having played U23 football but still different to Senior. The league in Finland runs from April to October . It would have been a while since Yli- Kokko played competitive football.

A lot of them only here for three months is the most worrying aspect of it for me

Maybe the plan is that they help the squad settle in the first half of the season and give the recruitment team time to get more long term signings sorted in the summer window. Work should start asap to identify potential summer recruits. If they do particularly well, maybe they'll get their loans extended.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:49 pm A lot of them only here for three months is the most worrying aspect of it for me

It's a big number without LOI experience. A lot of them saying saying same thing in interviews, using the move as a stepping stone. They'll have to go out and back it up on the pitch.Louth4sam wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 9:47 pm There is a complete unknown quantity to our signings with all coming from outside the league. So unusual that we sign 8 players and none have played LOI football and just shows a shift in how clubs are recruiting.
Impossible to predict how many if any will be a success but O'Donnell has a decent record of bringing in players from the UK both at Pats and here so I would be hopeful some will be of a good quality.

This could be the parent clubs saying, go over see if you get playing time. If they get it, they can extend .....niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:49 pm A lot of them only here for three months is the most worrying aspect of it for me
Alternatively, it could be a case of keeping Hulls owner happy and leaving potential space for their players should a deal be on the cards. Interesting is JR statement about MT .... either James is up to a bit of divilment or MT may be interested in an investment in the club, wonder how that would go down.

I think its to the end of June for the shortest deals Niall, thats still only 4 months, but in the case of Williams I think he is out of contract then also.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2023 10:49 pm A lot of them only here for three months is the most worrying aspect of it for me

I thought he had already left the club. Nothing on dundalkfc.com from what I can see either. It's a strange one. Was he training with the squad up until this week? Was he a Dundalk FC player? It seems like he was since he "completed a move".
"Joe Adams has completed a move to Southport FC. Joe made a total of 34 appearances for the club, scoring once. We would like to thank Joe for his efforts last season and wish him the very best of luck in the future."

He wasn't a Dundalk player anyway. He was a free agent since January 1st and was on Transfermarket.com.
They probably mentioned that he moved because he's a former player and had played with the club in 2022.

Think they were just waiting for him to find a new club until they sent out the message. "Joe has moved on" sounds a bit better than "we've let Joe go". There were rumours (and I stress they were only rumours) that he was on a big enough wage and if they had have extended his deal his contribution in terms of goals and assists wouldn't have merited it. I like him personally and thought he could've kicked on but not at the expense of finances.

Southport play in the 6th tier of English football national League north. Maybe that was the best offer he got, but he didn't do enough at Dundalk to be considered a League 1 or League 2 player.
Southport still have a better ground then Dundalk, which shows even at that level English clubs way ahead in facilities.

Interesting on the pressbox podcast this week , Andy Burton mentioned that the club were approached about offering Sheppard a new deal last summer and to date they haven't come forward with an offer.

Absolute shit show. If they don't want to invest what is the point of them being here?

The optimism that was followed by Dan McDonnell's club takeover announcement back in 2021 seems dead on its feet now. Maybe the buzz got everyone carried away of what actual likely to happen.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 3:28 pm Absolute shit show. To be fair to Stevie, he has us where we deserve to be as, Andy B said, Midtable/pushing for Europe each year. And i think owners understand that and will do best to back him. I also think we will still get europe this year.
Very hard to replicate what Kenny done, with stronger owners now invested throughout the league. Even Pats seem wealthier vs us at the moment.
Without wealthier owners or more investment or outside the box thinking like bohs, what else do fans actually expect?

Pats have made good money from player sales. James Abankwah to Udinese, Darragh Burs to Mk Dons, Luke McNally to Oxford. They made over 1 million on those 3 transfers
They will probably make good on Sam Curtis. The same with Mason Melia. Dundalk haven't been getting any fees.

We should be signing Shep up in the off chance he heads back to the UK. U can bet RVs will snap him up for free in November. Wasiri was released as well. Another player we could get for free. Statsports seem to not want to spend a cent.Richie87 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 5:48 pm Pats have made good money from player sales.
