On the positive side it was great to see several local politicians going in to bat on behalf of the club recently. Long overdue and the first step in a very long road, but great to see some momentum slowing building in terms of redevelopment

No but their budget dictates the standard of player we were able to sign and how late into the pre season they signedoldfogey wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 1:45 pm Everyone seems to be focusing on SS as the root cause of our problems.
The real issue lies on the pitch/in training/in the dressing room. Time and again we have flattered to deceive, either falling behind early, or not holding on to a lead. The were very few league games where the performance represented the value of the playing squad. If you take away the Cup win against Rovers, there has hardly been a game which instilled confidence that we were getting anywhere close to our potential. Add in the European performances and the concession of 4 goals in 32 minutes away to Galway, and you are looking at a zero return for the year
StatSports may have got things wrong off the pitch, but I doubt that they were dictating team selection, style of play, or who to recruit.
Dundalk Fc. First Irish club to win points in group stages of a major European Competition.

Would paying for accommodation with the UK players in addition to their wages be cheaper than their Dublin based equivalents? All evidence points to the lateness in signing players was O'Donnell's choice as he felt the standard of available LOI players wasn't good enough.niall_hearty2000 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 2:02 pmNo but their budget dictates the standard of player we were able to sign and how late into the pre season they signedoldfogey wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 1:45 pm Everyone seems to be focusing on SS as the root cause of our problems.

This sums up what I think too. Rumour is too far fetched.colymull wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 12:42 pm The Hoban rumour seems far fetched, to a degree. He may have been told that he'll have to fight for his place next season, but he is coming to the end of his career so this wouldn't be a surprise. He has a year left on his contract so unless someone comes into buy him, then he'll still be here next season. Also, the FB post is more or less blaming the owners for this, surely it's the manger who would tell a player he's not in his plans? It seems like the person on FB heard something and let his mind run away with him!!

Personally I'd hate it and would rather Peak6 back than McGregor, but the exposure the club would get would be phenomenal and merchandise sales would potentially be astronomical. He has 40M followers on instagram.

Re: 2023 Season General Thread
Ladies team manager Jason McConville's response to the Hoban rumour on facebook I think sums it up. This is from someone who actually works in Oriel.
"Yeah you can just cancel players contracts and what a crock of shite a club still with a outside chance of Europe would tell its players they are going with two games to spare nonsense absolute nonsense some people have little to be at. Fair enough at end of year if a club come looking and make an offer and he leaves or whatever and it’s a good move for the chap fine but this is nonsense I’m sorry just actually sit back and think about what is actually being said it’s farcical at best"
I think we're our own worst enemies sometimes, feeding the rumour mill like this the day before a massive game. Fully expect us to lose to Bohs tomorrow with all this muck going on in the background.

Jason mcconville here if you have any issue with my comment as a volunteer investing time in the club making a statement to defend them I’m not to hard to find and will gladly elaborate instead of twisting my words cheers Jason

Jay, I think he’s agreeing with ya and not saying anything bad about your comment.Jason mconville wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 4:02 pm Jason mcconville here if you have any issue with my comment as a volunteer investing time in the club making a statement to defend them I’m not to hard to find and will gladly elaborate instead of twisting my words cheers Jason
What he means is that your comment sums up the Pat situation and that us as Dundalk fans are our own worst enemy in creating rumours about our club, which I fully agree on.

He's an absolute arsehole but as you say the club would get Hugh coverage and gain fans from around the world, a bit like the Wrexham story but they're good lads to have on board. I would imagine if he's interested in a club it would probably be pat's .

I'm agreeing with what you said Jason, not twisting your words at all. I should've been more clear, apologies. When I said "it sums it up" I mean that I felt the same way you did towards the rumours.Jason mconville wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 4:02 pm Jason mcconville here if you have any issue with my comment as a volunteer investing time in the club making a statement to defend them I’m not to hard to find and will gladly elaborate instead of twisting my words cheers Jason

Re: 2023 Season General Thread
Yes Jason is right. This all started from a pod cast from a Local reporter who said that he heard it from someone at the club that we where going part time. It might be true it might not. This is nonsense it has spread all over LOI groups on Facebook. Now there saying Pat is been told to leave. All before a big match that could help us get into Europe next season. No good.

Re: 2023 Season General Thread
He probably meant going part time under the current ownership. A new ownership would hardly look to part time football in their first year .

If history has shown us anything it’s that the local reporter has been called a liar before and turned out to be right. To be fair to James, on the podcast he say he was told from inside the club that it could go to a hybrid model, not part time, he also said that it wasn’t decided yet and take it with a pinch of salt for now.
