Benson’s was a yellow card, no more.
Duff was easily led into saying what he said about the refereeing standards. While few will disagree that they are poor, he will likely have caused himself some grief with the FAI now.
Yea but he’s right. I’ve been banging on about this since the Buttimer days.
I remember Sean Connor’s assistant ( yes that Sean Connor) saying we had a decent league here but the refereeing was scandalous. It hasn’t got any better in those 15 years

Duff has a point ,but it's not like in England or other Leagues where VAR is there to review decisions. A big crusade against referees could put off potential referees in future.
The numbers aren't big as it is.

They need to invest in a better standard of training for refs but that's not going to happen because the FAI haven't two shillings to rub together.

Stevie said that Bradley said to him after that it was never a red and none of the rovers bench were calling for it. A bizarre decision that killed what could've been a decent game. I thought the supporters were outstanding despite the weather and the crap result.

We move.

I'd begin to worry about discipline. Two games in a row where we had a man sent off.

I would be more concerned if we were pulling out of tackles. The biggest concern is the lack of depth and quality in the squad. Cpl of injuries and we are struggling. Then again the clowns in the shed costing us money each and every week in fines. We could have another player or two on board. But hey once they create their atmosphere.

Just seen the replay of Benson's tackle there. Terrible decision and never a red. If we can't successfully appeal then the appeal process is rigged.

We've proven in games this season there is Quality there , deluded because a team of ten men got hockeyed.
The only one deluded here it seems is you. I applaud u for resolutely supporting the team but call a spade a spade when it's warranted.we were abysmal tonight even before the ten men. The squad simply isn't good enough. And we didn't turn up. The threw the towel in tonight. Ok I'll grant u that 11 v 11 it isn't a four nil game but it was still ending in a RVs victory. And they are a very average RVs side.
I think you're being very harsh there Niall. I thought we pretty much matched Rovers up until the sending off and I think we would have gotten something from the game had we kept 11 on the pitch.

If rovers are an average side, wtf are we.
Shocking display with or without the red card .nothing up front ,Alfie Lewis was shocking .Leahy was torn to shreds .too many weak links in that team .tonite we were really shown up for wat we are .
As for the shed ,whats with filling the shed with smoke before the start .definitely didn’t do anything too help “fortress oriel”because the shed was very quiet right from kick off .

Appealed for a card for sure, as you would but watch the interview that Gav did with Stevie.

I think Rovers looked the more likely team to score another even before Benson was sent off. Neil Ferrugia was very dangerous on the wing and Gaffney and Kenny had good movement in the forward line..

Sending off killed it but we were shocking and just capitulated far too easily. Clear to see that without hoban wr have no outlet and little threat up top. Up to the board to put up or shut up now and put their hands in their pockets and sign some decent quality. The current squad simply isn't good enough.
I don't think we are as bad as you're making out Niall. Yes, Hoban out of the team is a huge loss and the cover we have for him isn't as good. However, there aren't many, if any, player like Hoban in the league. Him dropping deep into midfield gives us an extra man in there, which is probably what we need against Rovers.
Having no cover at left back for Leahy is probably another negative especially when Leahy played as bad as he did last night.
However, up until their first goal, I think we were fairly evenly matched and had we drawn level with Martins chance then, who knows. But once Benson gets the red, it's an uphill battle. 11 v 11 and its never a 0-4 game. Not saying we'd have beaten them, but it definitely would have been much tighter.
Everyone knew Rovers would come good eventually, it's just unfortunate it was against us.

Ah, yes, the atmosphere.........................
I watched the game on LOI TV and couldn't see the first five minutes because of the atmosphere. Better than breathing in the fumes, i suppose.
How much did those morons cost us last night, I wonder?

Rovers in my opinion, on paper are have the best squad in the league by a country mile. Yes there is only a year or two left in some of them but the subs they made last night showed their quality, they brought off top class players and replaced them with players that would get into any league of Ireland team. We showed our weaknesses last night that most people highlighted, no striker and no hard tackling midfielder that can organise the team. The left side was destroyed from the start by farrugia and rovers should have scored 6. You know you have defencive weakness when the manager is screaming at you telling you who to mark for a corner. All in all we weren’t great and yes the sending off had a major outcome on the result but i think we should have enough to finish 4th. Like him or not at least Duff has the balls to speak out about the quality of referees because they are shocking and ruining the quality of football….
