We look very nervous tonight and our transitions from defence to attack are way too slow as a result. Almost feels like a must win game already after last week's result.
Got very lucky with the peno but we probably deserve to be drawing as there is very little between the teams

A deserved win for Sligo. Dundalk offered very little in second half.

Great game, magic tactics, great squad performance and of course do not forget the flares that instil that fight to get the extra 10% from our players. No need to ask questions about squad, tactics etc. nor to worry about fines ... sure everything is grand, we are 6th and that is probably where we deserve to be.

Poor stuff.. Says it all about the squad depth when you spend the last 20 minutes with Wardy up top on his own.
Our defence let Sligo walk through for the winner.
We are still 4-5 quality players short & in my opinion we have went backwards compared to last season.
Must say I was Impressed by Mata & Fitzgerald for Sligo.

Let's call a spade a spade. We are where we are cos we deserve to be. Apart from hammering pats and the draw v Derry, we have been incredibly poor all season. Once again no hoban means we look unlikely to score. There was no forward planning (excuse the pun) as to what happens if hoban gets an injury or doesn't come back with that extra yard of pace? Cammy Elliott must be injured but he isn't the answer either. Recruitment has been very poor. But maybe that's due to the budget constraints. But hey once the atmosphere from the flares in the shed is at maximum potential that's all that matters isn't it!!
Look if it was anyone else other than Stephen O'Donnell then questions would start to be asked by now. Filippo certainly wouldn't have been afforded this amount of quiet and applause after losing. Is that three successive defeats in oriel now? 2-1, 4-0 and 4-0. We had one chance v RVs, and apart from the penalty we had one chance tonight v Sligo when O'Kane had a shot tipped over by the keeper. But that was it. So two chances in total in the last two league games. Shockingly poor. As for the defence it was asleep for the winner.

I don't think the Derry performance was particularly good. Dundalk hardly tested their keeper, and just sat back in the second half that night. Sligo went to the Brandywell and played good football. Drogheda won their tonight.

No it wasn't good but it was a hard earned point on the road against one of the main title contenders. We don't have a goalscoring threat in the team

Just on the flares ,why we’re the stewards so brave against a couple of Sligo young lads .I’m all for zero tolerance against flares ,but they weren’t so brave against rovers last week or indeed the shed boys who create the “ATMOSPHERE “Pepsi wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 9:47 pm Great game, magic tactics, great squad performance and of course do not forget the flares that instil that fight to get the extra 10% from our players. It seems to be anytime the team play poorly/lose, the attention turns to sniping at supporters that stand shedside. I've pointed this out a few times but it keeps happening and it's made the forum unbearable.
We can all agree that flares are bad etc etc. but this isn't an issue exclusive to Dundalk. It happens league wide, which doesn't make it right, however must every thread be dominated by this issue? What does giving out on an internet forum achieve?
I've enjoyed my time on OrielWeb, especially during the Kenny years when it was quiet enough and one or two heads would pop in with a "job done, good 3 points". Think the football forum is a dying medium unfortunately.
Don't want to make a large song and dance about leaving, but I wish you all well and I hope that the supporter base becomes more unified in the coming months especially if this bad spell persists.

Re: Dundalk v Sligo 7/4/23
There was a spell in the second half after Sloggett came on where we pretty much dominated possession for about 20 minutes, had some really good build up play and then broke down in the final third. We went through a tough patch last season when Hoban got injured and it's happening again now. There is something fundamentally wrong at the club when you are playing Keith Ward up top on his own when you're chasing the game and that's not a dig at Wardy who I'm a massive fan of. For whatever reason, recruitment was left far too late this season and we're suffering for it now.
There was some players that were offered two year contracts last year that aren't good enough for the club and I fear it will be another rebuild next season. I still believe that were have the makings of a decent team but there are too many passengers in the squad that didn't offer enough last year and have contributed very little this season either. A fit Hoban masks our deficiencies somewhat however and I think we would have won tonight had he been on the pitch.

Hutchinson at left back was fantastic too. Defended well and played some excellent balls out of defence. He's only on loan so should be a player we monitor.

No positives from last night’s game. Similar to last year, so many injuries. We don’t look like scoring and can’t keep a clean sheet. Cork away looks tough now. If we concede the heads will go down very easily. Apart from the pats and Shels home games we haven’t played well I’m afraid to say.
No flares from our fans , so no fines, is the only positive I took from last night.

There shouldn't be such reliance on one player. Aidan Keena was top scorer last season for Sligo and Max Mata is stepping up this season. Mata was good last season but is probaly thriving as the main man.Louth4sam wrote: ↑Sat Apr 08, 2023 8:26 am There was a spell in the second half after Sloggett came on where we pretty much dominated possession for about 20 minutes, had some really good build up play and then broke down in the final third.
