Dundalk v Drogheda
Might as well start a thread.as i don’t see one for tonight’s game.
After Shels, a draw could probably be considered an excellent result.

I wouldn’t take a draw now at 6:15pm. We need to be looking to win this

They need a win. No win in 5 or 6 games. Dropping more points would be poor. No point beating around the bush.

I meant it would be excellent from O’Donnells perspective. Sure the excuses are already written by him. To me it is a must win game. Results are needed now.Martin Lawlor80 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 6:14 pm I wouldn’t take a draw now at 6:15pm. We need to be looking to win this

A welcome win but if ever a goal papered over the cracks... desperate performance.
Pat Hoban FC. Without him we are relegation candidates.. thankfully he stayed to chase that goal record

Re: Dundalk v Drogheda
That was little short of an abysmal performance against a ten men Drogheda team, I can not see Nathan Shepperd wanting to stay around when he is being left under pressure from stupid defensive mistakes, his frustration was clearly visible tonight.
At 2:1 up against ten things really should have been put to bed but it honestly looked like Dundalk were the one's down to ten & Drogheda looked more likely to score and after that more likely to win it.
The upsides, Hoban came alive after scoring, Ryan O'Kane was fantastic, three points is still three points.

The standard of football is shocking but a win is a win. O Kane has talent but won’t develop in that team, no one there to push him or direct him, no leaders or players to look up to.
On a separate note what is Brian Gartlands role at the club ( just a question as I can’t find the original press release) 👍

Standard of football well down and that's good point. I was coaching under age tonight and missed the game (our last game) but watched 2/3 on LOI TV.
Re DFC - No one putting their foot on the ball, we were open like a barn door most of the night, someone posted on here this week 'just what do they do in training during the week? I wonder too, plus I'm still not sure what Cregg takes to the table, just never seem to hear from him. This time last year Dave Mackey was a nice calm voice, and not even sure his departure was announced, was it, not sure, a league winner in 1991 too.
Look 3 points - bank it, delighted with it, but work to do.

Judging by the press release he is doing pretty much everything. I would like to see him coaching the defence.Midfield11 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 12:33 am The standard of football is shocking but a win is a win. Re: Dundalk v Drogheda
A win is a win. That's the bottom line. First half I thought we played very well. Second half terrible. I think we were content in playing it sideways and backwards and then they score and nerves and panic set in. Remember we are yet to play a settled starting 11. We have a midfielder playing fullback and we are without our two main centerhalves. We are ravaged by injuries and confidence is low. Why are people asking Creggs or Gartland's role? When we should be asking why is the budget poor? Why are we resigned to loan signings every season? Momentum from last season is lost, and will continue to be when we have a major rebuild every season. we will either be looking to replace these players in July cos they went back to their parent club or Derry sign them like they did with Connolly because our owners won't spend the cash. Titles are won with solid squads topped up by one or two new players each season not half a squad. Equally I feel we should be playing more preseason matches as we didn't hit the ground running from the start of the season. We have a different energy about the side when Hoban plays.
We are were we are due to all of the above.

They had to bring in some loans as 9 players left from last season. Muller, Annesley, Malley are on 2 year deals. I think Elliot is 1 year. They wouldn't have the finance to make 9 permanent signings.

How many loan signings did we have last season. How many will we have next season? You can't expect to be competitive chasing honours or European places or even going far in Europe when you have to rebuild the majority of your squad every season.

Archie Davies was also signed on a multi year deal.
Last year they had the full quota of loan signings. They made more permanent then loan signings this season. They have made it known they would like investment so they can only spend so much.
