Dundalk v Brunos Magpies | UECL R1 L2 | Thursday 20 July 19.45

Post by oldfogey »

Not necessarily the most important game of the season as the main goal has to be qualifying for Europe for 2024-25. Nevertheless, we need to try and maintain as high a coefficient as possible on addition to the not inconsequential matter of another €300k.

It appears that - weight and liquid loss aside - we got away with a clean bill of health. Brownlie was in pre-season so may not be up to being involved yet. Elliott is still a possibility for this week. Perfect scenario would be to have the game wrapped up by halftime, allowing the manager to rest players in the second half ahead of Sunday.

It's unthinkable really that we don't come through this game. Hopefully it's a comfortable one, with no extra time or penalty shootout stress.

Anything can happen in 90 minutes of football though, so I would hate to think the players are anywhere near as complacent as I am!

I fully expect us to go through. But there are no easy games in Europe. Some of the posts about being out of sight by half time to give lads a run are fanciful. These may have started as a pub team but they are far from that now and have some decent backing financially. Again that said we are the better team and should go through. It would be a bad result otherwise.

Europe is about progressing and nothing else. If we win 1-0 I'll be happy, if we win by more I'll be delighted.

Why are the club making it so hard for old people like myself, having to buy tickets online and having to have a credit card.If this policy continues I can see older people just not bothering.

I assume you know that a bank account Debit Card is sufficient, it doesn't have to be a Credit Card. I'm not for one miniute justifying the notion of online ticket sales only, although I imagine it's a question of logistics and staffing. If you make tickets available from the club, then people want to buy them outside of normal office hours, inlcuding weekends. It's not that long ago we had queues for tickets out to the Carrick Road. With the game being restricted to seating only, there is a distinct possibility that fans would turn up to Oriel only to find that it was sold out.

FYI the Stand and Shed are already Sold Out. Only the Carrick Rd end (normal away section) and North East Tce are left, and the latter has no Juvenile tickets.

The simple answer to your comment is no I don't have a debit card or credit card,I collect my pension at the post office every week like thousands of others.I don't think it's unreasonable to except legal currency of the country. On line sales and buying may suit you and young people but not all of us have that facility, a little consideration for us backwoods people.

Have you tried calling the office? I’ve found them very accommodating for all requests.

Buster, if you are stuck I can offer to buy the ticket online for you and you could meet me before the game and sort me with the cash?

I've been stuck the other way when tickets were only available in the shop and have been helped by other lilywhites so would be good to pay it forward.

Great strike but poor header out from boyle. We aren't playing well again. We got the dream start one up inside three mins

Good workmanlike performance nothing pretty but the result was all that mattered. Hopefully it will now allow us to free up some funds and go and sign Horgan or someone up we need some creativity in the middle.

Dundalk looked very shaky at the back when the Magpies broke in the first half. Second half a bit better but they are through with 300k.
The performance over the 2 legs would hardly be enough to get past the Icelandic team KA

Magpies look very disappointed &indeed very shaky in the end , probably the fact that they did’nt pocket the €300,000. I believe Dundalk stand to pocket a minimum € 500, 000. Now thats a good days work . Very positive over the two legs. Congrats to the whole squad & Stevie . Onwards & upwards . I expect us to knock Rovers out of the Cup at weekend , nothing to fear there . They are on the slide , as could be seen in the recent 2-0 defeat in Oriel , when they didnt get a kick of the ball. Indeed it was a bad few weeks in Co. Louth , as they were lucky to get a point in Drogheada & then knocked out of Champions League. Would take a 3-0 win in Iceland next week . Cmon the Town . Keep the wins coming & keep being positive . 👍
