KA home game - can we do it ?

Poll ended at Thu Aug 03, 2023 5:02 pm

Yes we can win by 2 goals and take it to ET, then win the tie in ET or Pens.

I think we will win by 3 clear goals and win the tie in 90 mins.

We will win but I can't see us getting the required score to win the tie.

Unfortunately I think we not win and will be going out on Thursday night.

KA home game, can we do it ?

Post by mike »

Creating a poll to see what the mood is.

FWIW I think we can do this on Thursday nigh, 1-2 would be very doable, there is obv work to do at 1-3 but I still have a feeling we will do it.

Although 3 goals is a big ask, I feel we have a chance but maybe after ET. We are well capable of 2 however and if KA score it really dosnt change things too much as we still need 3. A lot will be depending on our wingers and wing backs with decent supply. We will be a different animal at home with almost 100% of crowd behind us. Im going for win after et/pens

Even a 2-0 win and take them to ET, only blip I think I read no other Irish team has come back from a 2 goal deficit to win, surprised to hear that actually.

Not connected but Sheff Wed were 0-4 down and dead and buried in L1 play off semi final first leg (away) last season, they won 5-1 at home (5-5 on agg) then won on pens after ET and went on to win the play off final, oh and sacked / didn't renew contract of their manager in the summer !

Dundalk need to score 1 goal in the first half. The longer it stays scoreless the more confident KA will be. They'll also be dangerous with Dundalk having to go for it ,leaving gaps to get behind.

I think we need to score the first goal and in the first 15-20 mins !!!!

That said, no point going Gung ho, as we will be left often at the back, still think we have to score first.

Not much thinking about it ,Dundalk do have to score first. If they conceded and hoping to get 3 goals for extra time it would be a big ask. Dundalk aren't a high scoring team

I actually think if we scored early KA would panic and fold.

Shades of a previous (but not the last) Icelandic visit Niall, Fram in 1981, we were 1-2 from first leg, Leo Flanagan scored in first 5 mins, we won 4-0.

I was at that game Mike. Think Martin Lawlor scored as well.

I found it on wiki Niall, it then set up the famous tie v Spurs (lost 2-1 on agg), I was there also.

Dundalk Republic of Ireland 4–0 Iceland Fram
Flanagan 4'
Fairclough 23'
M. Lawlor 49'
Duff 62'

I stupidly bought three tickets last week (1 adult, two kids) for the KA game tomorrow night forgetting that I was away on holidays this week. I'm guessing most of you have tickets but if you know anybody who wants to bring their kids I can email on tickets. They are for the Carrick End.

Getting an early goal will be vital I feel. That will force them to maybe probe us and we could open them up. Regardless we’re going to have to go at them for the 90 mins. I do feel we’re going through tonight and I have nothing to base that off. Should we progress I’d put it up there with the Bate game in terms of European results. Weaker opposition obviously but having to climb a fairly big mountain to overturn the first leg. Seriously excited for this one tonight lads and lassies

I too think we can do it, but no Irish team has ever overcome a two goal first leg deficit.
