Dundalk v KA Akureyri | UECL R2 L2 | Thursday 03 August 19.45

Stand sold out, only Adult tickets left for the Shed.

Big ask for Thursday night, not just in scoring at least 2 goals, but in preventing KA from increasing their lead.

Get on the poll I created guys, sep thread, I am keen to see what the mood is like.

I still think they are not great, just hit us badly on 3 attacks, Boyle slipping, that won't happen again.

PP price of 8/1 at DFC -2, thats to win by 3 goals in 90 mins. We did it in 1981, 1-2 down away to Fram, won 4-0 at home, then the famous game v Spurs after.

Ok its a big ask, but lets go for it, prob need to get to 2-0 up by HT to have a chance, can we do it, YES.

Tonight’s match sold out late last night. Does anyone know if Annesley is fit for tonight? If so I’d imagine we’ll see Stevie play a back 4. It’s a big task tonight but I’ve a good feeling about it it’s as good as a free hit place should be rocking so hopefully we can get it done

I think its key who he plays in middle of defence with Boyle, for me and I know he did brilliant v Rovers, I'd be leaving Muller aside for this one, we need more experience.

Brownlie was only on for short period v Rovers, but he impressed, made one magnificent tackle while facing his own goal, won the ball and turned 180c, maybe an option, but prob more realistic is to start him Sunday, so I think he will go with Boyle and Louie A.

O'Kane and Kelly on the wings is a must.

Personally I’d leave Dickie as impact sub and start John Martin just for his physical presence and leaves Annesley Leahy Boyle all with the option of a long switch

Sheps
Davies Boyle Annsley Leahy
Doyle Sloggett
Martin. Malley. O’Kane
Hoban

That’d be my 11

Think we got the starting eleven badly wrong tonight. Defensively we are a disaster Leahy is weak, boyle and Annesley don't seem to be a strong partnership. Time for Brownlie to get a chance. We are leaking silly goals all season. You will get away with that most weeks at loi level but not at European level irrespective of who the opposition are. How many times did we end up in the KA half only to pass back into our own half. Terrible goals to concede. Malley and Doyle is a poor mf combo. And we didn't create enough going forward. Martin worked his socks off all game. I don't think Pat is fully fit seems to be hindered by the injury. Over the two legs we didn't play well enough. Felt we needed to change it up a lot sooner than we did.

Poor showing, bits of good play in first half but slack defending. A predictable counter attack goal in the first attack by KA when Dundalk were trying to attack. They managed the game well.

At least Derry City saved some grace for the Irish clubs. They were unseeded so a good win against the Finnish team.

If Stevie comes out with him usual ... we showed X,Y and Z and take positives after that he should take a long look in the mirror and ask himself if he wants to be taken seriously. The starting 11 didn't look like they were comfortable playing the system he wanted (or didn't know what system to play), our defence was a disgrace (problems not addressed over 2 - 3 windows), midfield was not at the races ... Malley looks like he has 2 gears ... slow and stop, chap doesn't look interested half the time waltzing around and up front ... no service. The 2 good deliveries that went in resulted in goals.

KA deserve to go through, they did what had to be done over 2 legs and showed our lads what match management is all about. They played the ref, committed fouls to break up play when needed and scored their goals.

We have a manager still learning his trade and that showed tonight. Subs had to be made around the 60 minute mark. Doyle was really poor and carrying a yellow, huge mistake to leave him on. Malley same as usual, just offers nothing. Leahy, annelsey both not great.

Archie and Martin our best performers

Fully deserved to go out over the two legs to very average opposition.

Only thing I can think was Sloggett isn’t fit. Times I’ve seen Malley play well it’s been as an 8/10 with two 6s behind asking him to play as a box to box was daft and it showed. We kept shiftin left to right fullbacks whippin in poor crosses against a back 4 I thought were very goood in the air but seemed no plan b

Look at the 5 goals we conceded 4 cases of poor defending and 1 from the spot. I won’t say better team won over two legs because I think we’ve got more quality but they set up to be hard to beat play on the counter and it worked a treat. Managed the game very well tonight but expect Brugge to put a good couple past them next round

If a team is going to progress in Europe, they have to do the basics right. The left side of our defence was a problem all night. Annesley is as weak as dishwater, and attackers know that if they back into him, he will not win a clean header. We don't have the attacking quality to compensate for the goals that are given away.

I wasn't a fan of the starting 11, particularly in the centre of midfield, but it is the defence that is killing us. The stats about conceding the first goal tell the story.
