Maybe O'Donnell doesn't want Pat? Like he's pretty bad at transfers so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Stevie thinks cam Elliott is a better option.

Maybe there's another Highland league player on his radar....
Or he could be planning on playing with no strikers next year as some games this season we didn't even take a shot at goal.

If Pat was lying do you not think the club and O'Donnell would have made a statement on it by now. It's in the public domain over a week and is damaging the club and manager so I am sure they would have issued a public response by now if anything in the article was inaccurate. Btw if it is true and pat was informed by a phonecall then it is an absolutely disgusting way to release a club legend and the all time leading goalscorer.

Not said Pat is lying at all, just think all is very strange. He's under contract for 2024 as we know so assuming he has the option/right to stay put in Oriel?

Lads was there not a similar issue during the Peak6 ownership and Pats contract, where Bill had to step in to sort it out? Lets hope the owners / management have a plan that we know nothing about. Looking in from outside, it looks like it is either a case of, they are cutting budgets and getting big earners off the payroll or they are they have someone else lined up, who they think is better.

Last bit of this is more than likely the case, reality is Pat is 32 now and the club needs to look to the future. Didn't the report last week suggest Pat held the power to stay if that was indeed his preference? Cutting big earners off the payroll could be the case as well, but why sign Horgan on a 2.5 year deal then??

The amount of useless players we have on our books and the club decides to get rid of one of the best strikers in the league. I’m sorry but if this is how we treat players under contract who works their socks every game regardless of their wages then they are painting the club in a very bad light. What player would come to a club like this. It will be interesting to see what rubbish we keep for next year. I have defended the owners in the past but if this is true (done with a phone call) they can piss right off. Complete clear out needed.

Pat clearly has more integrity than our club lads. He would be quite within his rights to sit on the bench next season and just take his money until his contract is up. But seems to be the type of chap who still wants to play for his money. In any case, thanks for everything Pat, true legend and any club who gets him will be blessed. It is a very sad situation and if it is true I feel ashamed that our board did not have the common decency to tell the lad face to face. Spineless gets.

I am a big Pat Hoban admirer - his goal scoring record will not be surpassed I reckon in our lifetime. If as he states is true, means he has been very shabbily treated, not very fair. However has Dundalk FC not been very good to Pat. I have never heard him complain about his weekly wage, league, cup or European bonus's. Pat has been with & been a vital cog in the teams that brought us success but who have also been handsomely rewarded. A wage many many times more than us ordinary supporters would ever earn.. Pat this is the life of a footballer, you made hay when the sun shone and good luck to you but my thinking is at present is we no longer have the financial clout to pay you and rightly so we must cut back to avoid breach of contracts and budget for next year. I as a supporter thank you for your services, handsomely paid for, but the survival of our club comes before any individual, I am sorry if our sorry excuse of a board did not treat you with respect, you will always be a stalwart in my book. Pat good luck with your future but still believe it will be in a Dundalk jersey next season.
