I have only ever seen Colin who has done some moderation and I have to say for a site this size and the number of posts on it, it is impossible for one person to do it all imo.

I would have to agree too, with the amount of traffic on here, we do seriously need to consider some more mods, some of the tripe being written is nothing short of rediculous!, Colin does a great job with the site, but as was said, he cant be expected to be the sole mod, it too much work for one person!

The forum has really gone to crap lately. People posting irrelevant crap and clogging up the whole forum. It's a pain in the hole coming on the forum now as you have to sift through a pile of crap before you can find anything remotely relating to the thread. I know everyone goes off topic occasionally but it's gone way overboard with the same few people posting dozens of times in a thread without contributing anything meaningful.
I know its not nice but maybe it's time to start issuing infractions and bannings to the main culprits to try and get orielweb back to where it was last season.

Alright lads, I've handed a warning to a poster.

I will do this in future; a warning then a 2 week ban, then permanent.

I hate doing this, big fan of free speech and the rest but you're right it's gone beyond a joke now.

Absolutely. Free speech only applies when people have something to say! Here's hoping it won't go beyond a warning.

Thanks Colin and hopefully like Andrea says a warning will be enough.

Good members will be lost and OW will turn into the likes of the Bohs forum if something is not done.

Yikes!!

To start letting other members moderate there would have to be a very defined set of rules to ensure consistency and avoid bias... otherwise it could end up like foot.ie!!

Foot.ie and bohs forum are two opposite extremes. We are heading very fast into Bohs territory at the moment. Need something to swing it back and soon. It is not the case of everything requiring moderation. It is only a handful of members that have managed to make it swing widely into a forum of tripe. Get rid of them and things should greatly improve again.

I have to agree with Conroy and GC on this. It's a chore to log on to Oriel Web these days, knowing you'll have to plough through reams of rubbish before you get to read anything of interest. It's just when people start rambling away in the Dundalk FC topics that it annoys me, I don't think anyone minds the banter and messing in the off topic section - indeed that's the whole point of that section.

However, as Andrea says, a defined set of rules is necessary as over the top moderation can also turn people off, although I'd prefer to U-turn towards that type of board than continue to drift off in the direction it is currently going.
