Re: Proper Moderation
Everything in moderation including moderation. I.E. If mods are put in place make sure that they are not power crazy ones. Although I think my previous post would sort 99% of the problems out. For example one poster has joined on March 29th and already has well over 300 posts. Only about 2% of them are sensible.

Re: Proper Moderation
Is the "foe" option not working out for everyone? Personally I find it pretty handy as it blocks out about a dozen of the posters for me which makes it a hell of a lot easier.

That results in disjointed conversations which is difficult to read.Duffman wrote:Is the "foe" option not working out for everyone? Personally I find it pretty handy as it blocks out about a dozen of the posters for me which makes it a hell of a lot easier.

I have used the foe option with one particular poster but the problem is other posters will quote him so I end up reading his drivel anywayGC. wrote:That results in disjointed conversations which is difficult to read.Duffman wrote:Is the "foe" option not working out for everyone? Re: Proper Moderation
I have to say i read everybodys comments, its good to know what other fans think about different topics. Some comments that certain posters make might seem like drivel to one person, but, some others might agree with them.I think the best option here is to simply ignore comments that get under your skin, some people cant do that and in return each thread is turning into a slanging match which results in it being locked.I just simply ignore some posters comments and carry on reading.

It is hard to ignore when people post so much spam. Spam drives people away, makes debate impossible, makes it impossible to get any information because it takes so long to search for decent posts. It needs to be cut back and that is up to moderators to deal with. Too many good people have left and it is going to continue to happen resulting in a forum of spam unless the mods get to work.

Re: Proper Moderation
Theres about 1700 people on this forum now,and i think everybody is entitled to their opinion,if they take the time to sign up for Oriel Web i think they deserve to be heard too.Obviously 1700 people aren't going to share the same views.I find on this forum that new posters comments aren't taken seriously and sometimes shot down.I joined in March but have been going to Oriel since i was 4,i think my opinion should be just as important as someone on here that has 3000 posts.I've noticed there's about 10 posters on here who just get targeted for any comments they make and because of other/older posters having a go at them it has resulted in threads being locked.

Re: Proper Moderation
To be fair Hairy78, I think the issue is less to do with what people's opinions are and more to do with how they are expressed. If somebody posts an opinion that is different to mine but it is written legibly and not shoved down my throat then I will read it, sometimes respond to it and will usually take the point on board. On the other hand, people are posting messages that barely make any sense so are difficult if not impossible to read so that I lose patience with even trying and then these points are repeated endlessly in some hope that the poster can convince everybody to agree with them. Some posters are also quite abusive of anybody who disagrees with them, in fact some of the newer posters are abusive of anybody who doesn't AGREE with them!! We are never all going to agree on most things, that is the beauty of this place, but it can get tiresome reading the same posts over and over and especially when I know that those posts are causing people with interesting ideas to stay away and not post. So the variety in opinions is being lessened, not increased.
Basically, if posters write clearly, don't badgere points to death and don't have causing offence as their main reason for being here then I think we can all get along!

I don't see why older members don't post.If they have something of value to add why not post, just because there's a few eejits on doesn't mean they have to stay away.Since i've joined up to this new posters have been blamed for dragging it down, bit unfair i think.Threads will become repetative because some dont like SC,or the ref cost us the game etc. Thats all part of a forum, discussion and debate.

Re: Proper Moderation
I think the problem is that a lot of threads that start off good end up as tit-for-tat slagging matches and end up being locked. Everybody is entitled to their opinion whether we agree with it or not, but some people on here just seem to attack people because they don't agree with their point of view. If you don't agree with what somebody post then post a constructive argument yourself - don't just say ''you're talking sh*te'' or stuff like that which causes the thread to decend into a war of words.

I find I rarely visit orielweb anymore. Just way too many pages and posts that mean noting to get through. Theres 13 pages for the Galway thread and all mostly one line responses!

If i've been to a match in oriel i only want to read a post thats short and to the point. For those who haven't made a match they'll prob benefit from longer, more in depth posts,so really it has to suit everybody.

On a lighter note Ive just had one of the best laughs in a long time. Have a look at the way the Lwa Display thread disintegrated within one page. I have visions of Duffman just losing the will to live with some of the carry on
