And behold there were RULES

Post by Colin Gallagher »

I suppose you can see the crap this board is in since I have not done anything like this since we moved here in 2002 (wow time flies!).

So we have a couple of problems:
Incomprehensible posts. txt speak will result in immediate banning. sorry we don't have time to comprehend it all.
Personal insults. Will result in immediate banning. Insults are from the pretty lame "shut up!" to all the rest.
People complaining that this board is gone to the dogs every time they post. Yeah ok we get it, bye bye if you can't stand it any more! Plenty of people have done so before and plenty more will. You won't get banned for this but you will get warned for first offence.

So officially here they are.

BANNING RULES (UPDATED MARCH 2013):

Any advertising in signatures will be removed.

You will be banned immediately if:

1. You speak in txt speak. I don't mind the occassional "ur" but if your post takes more than 10 seconds to comprehend; you're gone.

2. You personally abuse another poster for their opinion or viewpoint. This may be a bit controversial but I'm sick of the baiting and the retaliations that go on.I don't care what your opinions are as long as you get them across succinctly and take on board other peoples views without calling them a f***ing c**t. Telling a person to shut up can also be seen as uncalled for, I think we can do without it all and still have normal discussion. Why don't we just take a couple of posters habits and if you disagree just start off with "Yeah, gotta disagree with ya there.....etc etc."

You will be warned if:

1. You whine about this place not being readable or worth coming to any more. Annoying!

2. A reply to a poster which is basically just worthless and is dissing the posters opinions.

I'm also closing down registration to the board for the next few weeks. So there. Tell your friends.

You can start sending me PMs now telling me I'm Hitler and giving me definitions of freedom of speech. You won't be banned. ;)

Pity it's come to this, but no arguments here. Deep breaths all around and I'm sure we'll be fine!

"Yes I have to disagree with you..." (Colin). If 'txt speak' is going to be banned why not crap English. Some people, not you Colin, but some people do sound like idiots on here. Use proper words... we may live in/with a 'nintendo generation' but there is no need for it.

Anyway, good idea to clean it all up. I guess some people really want want to be "First Team"...

For as long as I can remember people have been coming on this and indeed other message boards, to say how sh!t things had got and it use to be good and the Board wasn't worth visiting anymore. You generally find that they didn't make much of a contribution in the past anyway. To give it full credit, Orielweb is by a mile my best source of information re Dundalk FC. No other outlet comes even close. It's just a matter of coming to know who to believe and who shoots from the hip in terms of club news.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully the rule banning text speak also bans entire sentences in lower case. How difficult and time consuming is it to use the Shift button once in a while. Posters should be aware too that posting in upper case IS THE SAME AS SHOUTING.

Is it possible to automatically block any post entirely in lower or upper case?

I thought i was the only moany git that got annoyed by that.

Thanks for that Colin, hopefully it'll stamp out some of the nonsense that has been posted lately.

Good stuff Colin, hopefully it'll help. A quick question though, What about the "look at me" turbo posting of the same point or comments in multiple threads the whole time? Not naming anyone in particular ;) but for me it's a case of yeah I heard you the first time, stop flogging the dead horse! If you've something new to add fine then work away but the constant reposting of the same stuff every time I check in is bordering on the ridiculous for me and I'm sure a few others.

As I said, not a problem with a constructive argument or that but it defeats the purpose if that's all that's said repeatedly for the sake of baiting other posters and going on a WUM. Besides, a good WUM knows when to stop or give it a rest for a while!

Anyway, keep up the good work Colin.

If I were a football commentator I'd certainly say a couple of the replies here are ironic. Colin's post is about incomprehensible posts (or incomprehendable, eh, Colin? Could be a ban coming your way!) and a couple of the replies are, as usual, thrown up without the slightest effort to make them legible. Seriously, how difficult and time-consuming is it to use the occassional capital letter?
